The top one is darker because it was taken without flash. To my eyes it is not either extreme. The wear is there, mostly on the back/neck/peghead. Edited to add even more confusion, another shot outdoors, camera set to spot metering

It looks more like this...possibly a little bit darker. It's basically a dark-ish burst that they addes a little more red over the dark edges. It really is a stunning color over a gorgeous top.
