Jeff R Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Posting here because I’d love to avoid eBay if at all possible and help a HFC'er out in the process. In an effort to downsize, fund a smaller amp and slightly reduce the number of things my wife can nag me about, I’m selling my half-stack, the main piece being my late ‘90s Mesa Dual Rectifier Tremoverb head. This amp is a classic Dual Rectifier with tremolo and reverb and the precursor to the Road King. I’ve never cracked the chassis to date it, but accompanying literature leads me to believe it’s a ’97 or ’98.It’s 100 watts and two channels, each with two modes – “clean” is Fender-ey, “blues” is more Vox-ey, “vintage high gain” is Marshall on steroids and “modern high gain” gets the Boogie runk-chunk high gain. The amp also has Boogie’s “channel cloning” feature where you can clone a mode into the other channel should you choose. It has separate tone and reverb controls for each channel, and it will take 6L6s or EL34s in the power section. This amp sounds killer at all volumes and it's substantially more versatile than a run-of-the-mill Dual Rectifier. It has an assignable effects loop (either channel, both or bypass) with send and mix controls and assignable tremolo with speed and depth controls. Its collection of switches include a “bold/spongy” switch that reduces wattage, and a switch to go between a silicon diode rectifier circuit or the tube rectifier circuit. The reverb circuit is unusually rich compared to other Boogie amps I’ve used. Here's a link to a Tremoverb manual, which has more details on the modes, the channel cloning feature and what all the knobs and switches do: http://www.mesaboogie.com/manuals/Tremoverb.pdfThis amp is CLEAN. I got it from Cajun Boy, who apparently got it from a curator at the Smithsonian. I can’t find a single hint of wear on this amp anywhere. I also have the original orange hangtags, the inspection card initialed by factory personnel, the Boogie footswitch, the factory vinyl/felt-back slipcover for the head and the factory owner’s packet which includes the factory manual, that era’s Boogie catalog and MSRP list, warranty card stub, service center list, even an unused Boogie bumper sticker Mesa stuck in there.I haven’t shot pix yet because I haven’t had a day of sunshine down here in over a week.I will sell this to an HFC’er for exactly what I have in it - $1050 plus shipping and PayPal fee if that’s your preferred payment. The last one on eBay (our own AdmiralB’s T-verb) sold for slightly more than that and I don’t know if Bob's was as clean as this one (I've seen new amps on showroom floors that weren't as clean as this one).No trades because I need to pay for another amp. I have numerous HFC references and I pack gear to survive wars.
Eric Weston Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 CRRAAAAPPPPPPP!!! .......I just blew my wad last week on gear that I don't want half as bad as that amp
DavidE Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 These are nice amps. I had a combo version years ago and sold it because it weighed over 100 pounds. I think I got $1000 or 1100 for it a LONG time ago. In other words, this sounds like an excellent deal and in a much more usable package. How much does the head weigh???
Jeff R Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 I have no clue how much it weighs exactly and Boogie's site doesn't list weights for their amps. I dunno, 40 pounds maybe? It's not stoopid heavy like those T-verb combos. On a related note: Back in the 90s, my best friend has the T-verb combo David refers too, and he transported it in an Anvil ATA flight case. It took both of us straining our butts off to get it up and down his apartment steps.
silentman Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 41 pounds according to their product guide.
thecajunboy Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Shouldn't need any pictures of this one. It is as Jeff described. I bought it from the original owner who was anal enough to keep all the hang tags, stickers, and catalogs for it. Then it stayed at my place for a year or so as room decoration. It is mint condition. I never cracked it open either, which is rather odd for me, but I just never had the urge or reason to get in there for a look around. Just found these on my pc.
Brooks Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 jeffro, say it ain't so!!!i gotta tell y'all that jeff called me and babbled gleefully for 20 minutes when he bought that thing!whatchu gonna get now?
kizanski Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 i gotta tell y'all that jeff called me and babbled gleefully for 20 minutes when he bought that thing! He tends to do that from time-to-time.It's part of his charm.
thecajunboy Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 i gotta tell y'all that jeff called me and babbled gleefully for 20 minutes when he bought that thing! He tends to do that from time-to-time. It's part of his charm. Maybe I shoulda spent more time trying to talk him out of buying it. Then again, Jeff ain't Jeff if he ain't movin' gear. Jeff is the total opposite of me and Foodermon. When we buy something, it's pretty much like the gear entering a black hole. Stuff rarely leaves the house. I actually sell some things, but the things that I do sell are mostly things that I buy just to flip.
edgar_allan_poe Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I want this amp, but need to talk to you tonight about it. I will call you tonight Jeff. I wanted to call last night but D's mom called from Trinidad right when I picked up the phone.
Jeff R Posted January 24, 2007 Author Posted January 24, 2007 Call after 7 p.m. because I'll be teaching guitar lessons up until then.
