Guest big steve Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 last week i was flipping around the radio, came up on the man-cow show.he started to rag on ozzy osbourne and his wife, saying they were some of the most hated people in holly wood.he said cuz about two years ago he went back and rerecorded his earlier albums with no-name musicians ,so he wouldn't have to pay the name talent any royalties.now,i dont find it hard to believe they didn't think about it,but i just don't see them being able to take randy or jake off the discs.so this is just a bunch of malarky right?do any of you guys know?
cmatthes Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Yeah. "Man-Cow". Sounds like another frustrated-musician-turned-DJ who will never be a Howard Stern.Sour Grapes, more likely. The fact is, those albums are out and whatever royalty deals were cut originally will be the ones that hold up. I can't imagine how that would change things - nobody's going to buy "Blizzard of Oz", featuring Joe Blow copping RR's stuff.
madhatter Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I heard that he replaced the bass and drums on his first two discs.
Scottcrud Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I heard about it two years ago, he re-recorded the first two albums, but not Randys parts, the bass and drums, Bob Daisly and...
formula73 Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Tune up your bass, turn it up real loud, then throw it down the stairs and it would sound better than Blizzard and Diary.
hamerhead Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 On a semi-related note, the other day I heard Ozzie's version of 'Mississippi Queen' (he's releasing an album of covers?!?).It was incredibly bad.
Craig Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Yes, drums and bass were re-recorded due to royalty squabbles.
Jeff R Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake are/were the B and D on the original "Blizzard."And yep, the cover of "Mississippi Queen" is horrid.
RJoseph133 Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Ozzy re-recorded the bass parts to Blizzard and Diary in order to cut off Bob Daisley and Lee Karslake from their share of performance royalties, which amounts to about $50,000/year.Mike Bordin played drums, Robert Trujillo plays bass. And, yes, I believe Ozzy has proven himself to be one of the biggest tools in history by doing this.
DavidE Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 On a semi-related note, the other day I heard Ozzie's version of 'Mississippi Queen' (he's releasing an album of covers?!?).It was incredibly bad. Agreed.
Guest teefus2 Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 i heard ozzy was trying to cover up rr's rhythm "suck tone"..........
hardheartedbill Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 it's pathetic and I've lost all respect for them. Daisley and Kerslake are journeyman musicians in their late 50's, that's a decent , not great retirement (better than I will have LOL) and those pukes livin in their 3 mansions did this out of spite, it fuckin sucks and kharma is watching, boycott his lame shit
Steve Haynie Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Bob Daisley has posted his position on his web site. If you really want to read something fun, go here:http://www.bobdaisley.com/classaction.htmApparently someone was really let down when he found out that the new remasters don't have Daisley and Kerslake on them.Personally, I liked Bob Daisley's playing on several albums. He was one of those people who really did a lot in the 70's and 80's. His latest project is a band called Living Loud with Steve Morse on guitar.
Guest Buck Dharma Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 This kind of news makes me sick. I will never like Ozz again. Just like I won't buy a new Gibson because of all their crap they pull screwing over smaller businesses.
Mr Fuzzy Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 It is true and sad that the drums were replaced on the first 2 albums (IMHO the only good albums Ozzy has made). This is one of the lamest things in rock.Screwing with "art" to satisfy greed. But, I guess it shows that even Ozzy has no respect for his own work.
RJoseph133 Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I'm wondering why he didn't replace Randy Rhoads' tracks with Zakk Wylde's? (Sarcasm mode off.) Zakk's tone is much better. Oh...yeah...he'd probably have to actually PAY Zakk. Ozzy is all about the money. It cracks me up to think how many people still attribute "metal god" status to an overweight, burned-out, multi-millionaire businessman who lives the life of a retired banker.
jettster Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I would be willing to bet it's Sharon, more so than Ozzy. The fact remains that he did let it happen though.
hardheartedbill Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 these are really a small percentage, these guys are not getting writer credit, they are the smallest share of the pie, and frankly the late RR can be credited for 99% of the sales IMO, but these guys were there and deserve this , as musicians we know what it's like to be in a band w/ a know- nothing singer, "make it more wobbly and less brown" we know how much a good drummer and bassist add to the arrangement even if they did'nt write the melody or chord sequence, you know they wrote their own parts, it's fraud as well, dispicable
RJoseph133 Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 we know how much a good drummer and bassist add to the arrangement even if they did'nt write the melody or chord sequence, you know they wrote their own parts, it's fraud as well, dispicable Bob Daisley wrote and arranged a great deal of Blizzard and Diary, as well as Bark at the Moon, Ultimate Sin, and No More Tears. Daisley is a very nice and sweet natured man, who always will swap war stories with fans. The shafting he has endured by The Osbournes is unbelievable, and from all accounts, it is totally driven by the desire to put just a few more pennies in the Osbourne treasury. Like father, like daughter; Sharon is doing her daddy proud.Kind of takes the "entertainment factor" out of watching "The Osbournes."
MoJohn Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I can't believe Ozzy has enough grey matter left to pull such a move. It must be Sharon's doing. Give her a lifetime membership in the see-unt club for that.Reprehensible behavior no matter whose idea it was.Peace,MoJohn
Brooks Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 It is true and sad that the drums were replaced on the first 2 albums (IMHO the only good albums Ozzy has made). yep. i haven't bought any other ozzy cd's except the 1st 2 (i did buy bark at the moon way back in highschool, a letdown).this is really sad, doesn't ozzy have enough money?
