tomteriffic Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Like the subject lines say. I forget the model number of it, but there is a US Ovation Elite-type out there that is all black with the mottled finish on top. Everybody said it was the shiznit. If you were going to have an Ovation, this was the one to have, and besides, it was cheep! I think they also made a hotrod flame version. So, who knows the right model number? Who has one they'd part with and for how much. And would you let me try it out for a couple of weeks? Actually the last part is because of an upcoming gig (St. Paddy's Day, LOOK OUT!!) where the proprietor has some vague ideas about letting her son sit in with us, and I sure as hell don't want to bring a $2,700 Taylor to THAT trainwreck.
DavidE Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Tom: I have both the red and orange flame versions. Here's a link to the black version:http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ova...itar?sku=513498Looks like the deals on the orange flame ones are gone. You might check with Guitar Center in Columbus to see if they have any on clearance.
tomteriffic Posted February 25, 2007 Author Posted February 25, 2007 Dave, we have a GC here, too now. I played one down there a couple of months ago and liked it. Broke a string and they just kind of put it with a pile of other stuff behind a counter. Wonder if it's still there? Maybe I'll head down there if the weather permits tomorrow.
Jeff R Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Broken string? Sounds like a strong argument for a GC blemished model discount LOL
tomteriffic Posted February 25, 2007 Author Posted February 25, 2007 Broken string? Sounds like a strong argument for a GC blemished model discount LOLOh HELL yeah!I also played a reissue Explorer while I was there. Felt like a toy compared to a mahogany Standard
BCR Greg Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 There are a hell lot of great guitars available at the price that aren't plastic, Tom.
Turdus Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I just picked up a used US Standard Balladeer for 4 bills.... black, mint, w/HC. Plays fine. Acoustically, I think it is thin sounding, but plug it in to the PA, and it sounds like a million.
Mike_C Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Tom it's an Elite T model 1778T get the black one it's absolutely killer. I had a shoulder injury on the right side that keeps me from be able to play a regular acoustic especially the one that I had which was a Guild Jumbo. the Black one or for that matter the red and the pewter (silver) have matte finishes and sound richer than the flamed out gloss finished versions. I have a black one and it's the stealth guitar oh it's a spruce top under the matte black finish. great sounding guitar. Acoustically and plugged in. Try Al he might have one or try over at the ovation fan club. Good luck.
cmatthes Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I am a fan of Ovations as well. I sold the one I'd had since the '80s a couple of years ago with the intention of replacing it, but haven't gotten around to it yet.I think that this is the year I get a bowl back...back!Elduave also has some great deals kicking around.
tomteriffic Posted February 25, 2007 Author Posted February 25, 2007 There are a hell lot of great guitars available at the price that aren't plastic, Tom.Yeah, I know that, Greg, and I've got a couple. In this instance, though, I specifically want a 'plastic guitar'. About the only acceptable substitute would be a Godin Acousticaster.
elduave Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I think that this is the year I get a bowl back...back! Yeah, you need to get on that.
alpep Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 elite T is a killer guitar. talk to dave if he can't help you I can.
MCChris Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Broken string? Sounds like a strong argument for a GC blemished model discount LOLCombine that with the fact that it's nearing the end of the month and commissions roll back to zero on Thursday and you might be able to grind down a sales drone right good.
halide Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 There are a hell lot of great guitars available at the price that aren't plastic, Tom.a very inaccurate, over-simplification, don't you think. you should know better.
BCR Greg Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 There are a hell lot of great guitars available at the price that aren't plastic, Tom.a very inaccurate, over-simplification, don't you think. you should know better.Thank you for your opinion.I am an Ovation service center, I work on them constantly and am entitled to MY opinion.Have a nice day.
alpep Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 if that is your opinion you should not service them.
BCR Greg Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Naw. Ovation makes good guitars, some are great, some are not so good. I glue them back together when they come apart. Mostly used ones. I have had some that were amazing, some that were not. I am not an Ovation dealer.I don't give a rat's ass what some of these guys think, and that is that. I have not said NOT to buy an Ovation. You guys are smart enough to think for yourselves, so do it.
DavidE Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I have a great 28 year old Martin, a brazillian rosewood back/side w/ cedar top Taylor and have had other martins and great guitars over the years. That being said, the Ovation 1778T is what works best for me for my acoustic duo. They absolutely have their place, even among all wood guitars.
cmatthes Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Gentlemen. DO NOT go down this path. This is an innocent thread - Tom asked a legitimate question. Keep your opinions and/or barbs to yourselves.Final warning for all.
