Bajan Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 It looks as though Dave's Guitars has dropped Gibson and have become a Hamer dealer. To quote their website: "HAMER NEWS! We're pleased to announce that we are now a Hamer dealer! Due to the outstanding reviews they received in Tone Quest magazine (we certainly trust what they have to say) we had to check them out! The first batch arrived and we are VERY impressed! The finish & fret work is unbeatable, the prices are reasonable and we've found the company very easy to do business with. Check 'em out and you'll be glad you did!"Shane.
Blueshound Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I think he still a Gibson dealer, he just can't advertise new Gibsons on his website. He still has a bunch of new Gibsons in his stores. Lee

Lee Nope, he dropped Gibson:"GIBSON NEWS! We are officially now NOT a Gibson dealer for 2005. We will be working dilligently to relist all of our existing left over new inventory within the next few days with prices & photos. "
Hackubus Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Dave's has started displaying pics of the Gibsons again with a disclaimer that they are no longer 2005 Gibson dealers."GIBSON NEWS! We are officially now NOT a Gibson dealer for 2005. We will be working dilligently to relist all of our existing left over new inventory within the next few days with prices & photos."
Blueshound Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Holy cow. Gibson loses another good dealer. What a bunch of !@#$ing morons. Lee
Mike_C Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Wow Welcome Dave's Guitars to the Hamer family. that is great news.
Bajan Posted March 2, 2005 Author Posted March 2, 2005 Looks like Music Machine (another Big Gibson dealer) picked up Hamer too. I remember seeing someone post somewhere that Wildwood Guitars may do the same but I haven't seen anything confirming that.Shane.
Hamerica Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 This should not be a surprise about Dave's dropping Gibson. What is a surprise is that Dave's is picking up Hamer. This is going to be good news for purchasers of Hamer Guitars and the Hamer brand in general.
hardheartedbill Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Hamers are all over the Gear Page as well, this boneheaded series of moves by Gibson has been Hamers best advertising in years!
Jeff R Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 My first reaction when I saw the Tonequest article was "the days of cheap Hamers are REALLY over now" LOL
Bajan Posted March 2, 2005 Author Posted March 2, 2005 Well then to get things started, here is a nice looking Studio Custom from Dave's new inventory of Hamers. Because threads without pics, suck.
Bajan Posted March 2, 2005 Author Posted March 2, 2005 These guys have web pages?www.davesguitar.comlook under misc. Electrics in the Inventorywww.music-machine.net
Abaco Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Yes, I think Hamers will not go down in market value since Gibson has fumbled. This is just drawing more people to give Hamers a serious look. Of course, those of us here already knew the truth. Now, the cat's leaping from the bag. It was my quest for a good Les Paul that made me discover and own Hamers. Still haven't found that Les Paul....
cmatthes Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Dave's has been a Hamer dealer for a long time. I bought a Standard from Dave in '95 when they re-issued them.I wasn't aware that they may have lapsed, but they always have had Hamers around.
DavidE Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 The real question is whether Hamer will be able to handle the increased demand.
Brewmaster Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 The real question is whether Hamer will be able to handle the increased demand. And if they can handle it, will it impact quality?
edgar_allan_poe Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 You guys are jumping the gun....1) Dave's will *not* have the same ### of Hamer guitars as they did with Gibson.2) Hamer is still a tough sell to the uneducated masses. Most of the guys with money who shop at Dave's will move to PRS or other similar priced guitars. This is a big score for Hamer...but lets not get carried away.
DavidE Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I agree EAP. There's no way Dave's could have as many Hamers as they did Gibsons because there aren't that many to go around. I imagine that there is some immediate increased dealer demand that has to be met.I'm guessing that the more Hamers out there and the more big name respected dealers (no offense to the dealers on this board) carry the brand and the more write ups like the one in Tonequest and the more Hamers you see mentioned on the Gear Page etc.... the more demand will grow. Not to Gibson or PRS proportions, but enough that the current output may not be enough to satisfy the demand. It could happen.
AdmiralB Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I agree. It would have been an easier sell in, say, 1994 - when Hamer significantly undercut Gibson in price. Now that there is pretty much price parity, it'll be tough.IMO this will help Gibson's mystique, not hurt it. Whether that helps sales, I dunno.
Abaco Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Well, the price issue comes down to Business 101. From what I understand Hamer does not crank out tons of guitars - just a few a day, right? Well, any business man who detects a void left by Gibson's screwup (and there will be a void - the size of it is what's to be debated) will predict more demand. With more demand you can either raise prices, crank up production (and, in this case lower quality), or both. To do nothing, given the increased market pressure, wouldn't make sense and would get you a "D" grade in Business 101. We'll see how things unfold.I know that Gibson is THE BRAND but one must wonder how long subpar quality will be tolerated by the market. My own opinion (and, everybody's got one of those) is that the guitar-buying masses will still clamor for Gibsons becuase their old heros played one no matter how poor the quality becomes. And, honestly, 95% of the guitar-buying public couldn't tell the difference between a $300 Memphis Les Paul copy and a Gibson if they were blindfolded. Thanks for reading my meaningless blather...
Guest Buck Dharma Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Well then to get things started, here is a nice looking Studio Custom from Dave's new inventory of Hamers. Because threads without pics, suck. For $2900 what the F? I just sold a 96 last year just as nice for $900. I love Hamers but you would have to be out of your mind to spend that on a Studio!
silentman Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 That's most likely the MAP, before dealer discounts. You should be near the high teens for a new studio.
cmatthes Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 MAP is $2,349 for the stock model. If there's a top upgrade, take it to $2,749. Not sure if there's a bound headstock or anything else, but factor that in. It should sell for the mid to upper teens, as Silentman mentions.
