I wanted to buy it but I didnt know if it was a good deal or not .Heres the link, Ill let you experts decide. Thank you http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...p;rd=1&rd=1
cmatthes Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Ahhhh... And to think I couldn't sell one for $400 a couple of years ago. Actually, I wouldn't pay anywhere near that for one of those. They're nice and all that, but that's a bit much in my opinion.

zorrow Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I might consider selling my Vector KK for slightly less that the eBay one, but first I would have to find a clean '81 Vector (that is, all mahogany, sustain block, no tremolo), try it and be satisfied, and then maybe my Vector KK could leave home because hopefully I would play it less -- and guitars are made to be played, right?

The coolest ones I've seen around are all already taken by you guys. But in any case, I'll get some extra cash in less than four weeks, and then I'll be in full hunting mode for an early 80's Vector -- I guess they look more appropriate for the kind of music I play, and I addition I don't like tremolos anymore.
zorrow Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 --> QUOTE(David B @ Apr 25 2007, 02:33 PM) ← I once bought one for $300. One what? KK or "ordinary" Vector?

peedenmark7 Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 zorrow, everything has dried up thats for sure.. slow going on some of the things I am looking for [not just guitars] thats for damn sure.... anyone got something "clown puke" for sale ? god I am jonesing for anything dayglo zulu !!! its not neccesarily that guys are hanging on to stuff because they feel its now or is actually worth more than before,. my thoughts are with the economy being a bit rocky at the moment that many are focused on more important things than buying and selling guitars or other hobby type ventures. sure things are selling , and some for stupid money but thats also due to the small qtys being listed/offered. it doesnt matter what site/genre youre on its been pathetic for a while... case in point I've watched the marshall jub stuff every day for around 4 years. lately its all over the map... one week a mediocre 2553 stack goes for $2400 , then a nice one with v-30s sells for $1700 or gets no bids at all... 2555 heads are sitting at $1400 !!!!! last summer you couldnt touch one under $2k unfortunately that leaves the buyers watching and waiting for fresh meat... it all cycles, I've seen this before...but with summer coming I dont expect it to get any better short term. still... an all mahogany vector [in natural?] shouldnt be too hard for you to find as guys either love or hate that look... build your cash stash and wait for the right one or more, she'll show. as for a trem, yea I too find myself getting further and further from them. they just dont fit into what I'm doing these days... but if the right one surfaces, rest assured I am on it hey gus that white vec rocks ! love em in white especially with a matched headstock. you might regret selling that one some day
JohnnyThunders Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Yep played it the other night. I'm not really aVector guy but I like this one. I had a single pickup with the Floyd, pointy head stock, single pickup, white and LEDs in the fretboard and sold it becuase this one smoked it as far as I'm concerned. Can't stand the floyds. zorrow Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Yep played it the other night. I'm not really aVector guy but I like this one. Any chance to ship it back to Montreal someday for a true Vector guy? he, he... Edited to add: well, I like it better without a pickguard. In fact, that's the first one I've seen with one! Is it a custom or a production model? Which year? Just curious, you know...

JohnnyThunders Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 1981 don't know about the pickguard. Maybe you never know. Yep played it the other night. I'm not really aVector guy but I like this one. They're nice and all that, but that's a bit much in my opinion. Hey Just a few questions; Why do you think they are not worth that much money? How did it play? What were the flaws? Do you think they have become more like a collectors item now that Rob Halford is back with Judas Priest and they have made a wicked comeback? Thanks

Do you think they have become more like a collectors item now that Rob Halford is back with Judas Priest and they have made a wicked comeback? nothing to do with halford and little to do with KK himself.... its just the cycle these guitars were locked into for way too many years. to a degree that still holds true. they were a usually a slow tough sale when new and resale has always been abismol on most hamers. with the current pricing of many new/used lines, I think folks are simply finding out that used hamers are a great bang for the buck, and are taking a second look all these yrs later... as you will notice though unless one is really a kahler fan, those guitars bring in "some cases" considerabley less than ones without. not so long ago, if a kahler fan, one could build one hell of a large cool collection of hamers for cheap, including the graphic'd ones. you either love V's or hate them...so values are all over the map depending on how bad one has to have one. deals are still to be had... so dont let $1500 be your benchmark... '81s still can stall at $600-700 on the bay. Thanks
Zoner Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 The Ebay KK in question could pop up again. Look at the feedback for the "winning" bidder - he just got neg'd for failing to pay on a $1500 Jackson, so a quick note to the seller might not hurt if you really had a hard-on for that axe. Z
zorrow Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Why do you think they are not worth that much money? How did it play? What were the flaws? Do you think they have become more like a collectors item now that Rob Halford is back with Judas Priest and they have made a wicked comeback? I own one Vector KK. My answers to your questions are: 1- I think a good one is worth between 1000 and 1500. They are pretty hard to find (almost collector items) and they play, look and sound really great. So, if you want to look different and still have a great-but-non-mainstream metal axe, you could consider buying a Vector KK and I bet you won't regret. 2- Mine's plays fantastic! The factory pickup was kind of muddy, but I replaced it by a Bill Lawrence L-500XL and now it really rocks. I also replaced the original brass Kahler by a new one made of steel. I installed stiffer springs too. Now mine's is to me a great, great, great little axe -- and FYI, I keep all the original pieces on a safe place, just in case. 3- Flaws? None man! Well, I did all the little adjustments above just to "modernize" her a little, but it's a very stable mahogany axe. I rely on her in my metal gigs and I feel completely safe. 4- I don't think the price I paid for my guitar has anything to do with Halford at all. I also forget the fact it is actually a K.K. Downing signature model. They are getting some value on the used market just because you don't easily find them in great condition, and those who play them normally don't put them for sale. There's also the "desire factor" of the buyer, as peedenmark7 said so wisely -- see the quote below: you either love V's or hate them...so values are all over the map depending on how bad one has to have one. deals are still to be had... so dont let $1500 be your benchmark... '81s still can stall at $600-700 on the bay. In my own case, I LOVE Vees. I don't play anything else (or almost), so I assume suffering the consequences of my narrow-minded taste for V-shaped bodies. In any case, I'll be looking for an '81 Vector pretty soon, and let's hope I won't have to wait two years to grab a cool one for a fair price.
serial Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Zorrow nailed the "issues" if you want to call them that with the KKV. I've had a few and they were all stellar guitars that just got better if you changed the pickup (which I only did once). The ones I had were easily the lightest weight guitars I've ever owned and felt and looked great. I'll likely get another someday because I personally like the Kahlers and I love playing Vees. Also agreed on the price range for 'em. There are a surprising number of JP trib bands out there apparently as I've sold a KKV and GT to two guys in two different ones and had an inquiry from a guy in a third.
peedenmark7 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 a vintage L-500 sounds great in a hamer!... back in the early 80s that was the first thing i did to them was swap the bridge pickup out.the dimarzios were so hit or miss...another good choice is the earlier version L90XL which was a fave of matthias jabs .they spec out at around 13.6K, so if you find one that looks correct, make sure you take a reading cause the identical looking L90 @ around 7.1K isnt so great ,at least to me.I love vectors...theyre all indeed super cool thoughout the different production periods.
