geoff_hartwell Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Looking for a short scale electric for Annie. She loves her baby Taylor, and asked about a Brian May MiniMay. The 17 inch scale creeps me out, and wondering what might be out there. Something 24 inch? Maybe a mustang, or Jagstang, or anydamnthang! Geoff
Mr Fuzzy Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Possibilities? Some damn thang - 24" scale Short scale Strat copy - 24' scale Probably not but... 22.5 scale A short scale bouquet The Short Scale Forum
Feynman Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 THis may not apply to your purposes, but I've had good luck with kids on normal scale guitars simply by tuning down and capoing the first fret. It's free when it's time to step up, too.
Zoner Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 My 10 year old daughter has had great luck with her Fender Duo-Sonic. I don't know if they still make this model or not, but it seems well-built (Mexico) and actually sounds great. The only downer is the tuners, but they are easily swapped and this, too, will be viable as the player grows. I play it a lot and find the short scale makes for some "expanded" chord voicing choices. Good luck. Z
currypowder Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I ran across this on my local craigslist. If I had not just purchased a short scale Edwards LP, I'd probably be looking real hard at it for my 8 year old. If you're interested and he doesn't want to ship, let me know and maybe I can help you out.http://louisville.craigslist.org/msg/476196585.html
geoff_hartwell Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 After some searching around, it doesn't seem like there's anythingreally approaching a gig-worthy instrument other than a mustang. There are several cutesy models, but nothing I would say that's INSPIRING to play.Does anybody know of a good quality (not booteeky/custom shop) makerthat makes solid 24 or 23 in scale guitars?
seeker Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Although they're hard to find, it might work to snag one of the reissues of this one:
