Lockbody Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Well, that and I don't have any money right now. Totally bitchin' Vintage S only about 40 miles SE of me. I think He's already lowered the price once, and it's still kinda up there, but given the one-piece body and the humbucker I'd snatch it if I could. Especially if I could play it first. Sigh... eBay Linky *Edit to fix html*
BubbaVO Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 I've watched that one too. That's really pretty. That once piece maple body is cool looking. Not to get negative, but what does that do for the sound? I hear on various other sites that maple (and ebony) bring out the higher end on the tonal frequencies on necks or laminated on guitar bodies. Seems like you're asking for a particular sound pallette with that one that will definitely be different from the Daytonas/Centauras and other super strats.
santellavision Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Did you see the back and the neck! I agree, it looks damn cool, but what does it sound like with that combination of woods?
bubs_42 Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 A totaly awsome guitar, I just can't grasp spending the money but compared to other strats out there for the same bucks this one is over the top with options. I need to hold out for one more Sunburst.... Anybody want to trade a Sunburst for it? Trade ya.... IT NEEDS A SUSTAIN BLOCK!!!!!!
Lockbody Posted January 20, 2008 Author Posted January 20, 2008 Did you see the back and the neck! I agree, it looks damn cool, but what does it sound like with that combination of woods? I've always read that Hamer uses a different maple that's not as bright (although I don't remember the name). Still, it would be pretty bright. Bet it's kinda heavy, too. I bet it goes this time, but if it doesn't... well... my Standard Custom came in third in an impromtu shootout between it, my Vector, and my Chap... Bad thoughts

Punkavenger Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 I'm sure it sounds just fine ... the warmness of the rosewood board cancels out the sharpness of the maple body. I bets it's no lightweight however. Beautiful guitar
bubs_42 Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 What pickup's are in the Vintage S, dimarzio/duncan which model's..?
shesky Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 What pickup's are in the Vintage S, dimarzio/duncan which model's..? I have duncans in mine, I believe they originally had active emg's. I also think the maple used is big leaf western versus hard maple. Not nearly as bright or heavy as you would think. I too have been watching this and I already own one. Highly recommend. shesky
Lockbody Posted January 20, 2008 Author Posted January 20, 2008 So much for me looking at other guitarshttp://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.p...mp;#entry263464
Nuclear Wessel Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 The Vintage S's had broadleaf maple bodies. It's not as bright sounding as hard rock maple. OTOH, it's not mahogany or even alder either. I have a H-S-S Vintage S. Out of curiosity I peered under the bridge humbucker to see what it was. I figured it was a Duncan 59 because it sounds very clean and pretty. I was amazed to see a sticker wiht the letters CC! It's a Custom Custom. The maple body must take out a lot of the CC's big lower midrange. The CC must keep the high end nice and warm sounding. I also have a S-S-S Vintage S. Not bright sounding at all. I own alder body Strat-type guitars that are brighter.
serial Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Rob's right on. Different maple species. Rock maple is what you usually see in guitars and it's very dense and bright tonally. I've owned two flame-maple bodied Californians and neither were especially bright guitars. One was very lightweight too.
Jeff R Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Many years ago I had a San Dimas-era Charvel with a body that was a slab of Western broadleaf maple, and it was lighter than most alder strats. Those Vintage S guitars are not only lookers, they are also very comfortable to play with the scaled-down/dinky bodies and are filled with useful tones electronically. Really nice guitars.
peedenmark7 Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 does that wilki trem work ? curious on folks thoughts on them as I am looking at another brand guitar sort of high endy and it carries this type of trem on the 6 neck of a double.typically I dont care for a trem on a double neck, but in this case, I might just jump.
bubs_42 Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Yes, I like them very smooth. The mirage's that i've played i've like everone of them.
