ronmail65 Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 I'm selling a 1982 Hamer Prototype with factory Kahler tremolo and trademark 'mother bucker'. These guitars evolved into the Phantom and Steve Stevens models. Despite their apparent simplicity in appearance, there's a lot of tonal variety in these guitars. And it's very comfortable to play. This guitar is in great condition and is completely original from what I can tell. Comes with the original Hamer hardshell case. Electronics and set up are excellent. Cosmetically guitar is in very good condition. There are a few dings on the body and around the headstock -- see photos. No breaks, repairs, etc... If you're interested email me at rbedsaul1@verizon.net. I'm asking $475 including shipping within the continental US. Not interested in trades right now.

David B Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Good price. The Kahler is not original though.
serial Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 These are great guitars, but as DavidB said, the Kahler is not factory. Kahler wasn't around in 1982 (I was, so I remember). Also, the ferrules in the back indicate that it's aftermarket. Still, these are great guitars. I won't part with mine ever.

David B -- Not trying to mislead you or anyone else. I'm not the original owner and I was told that the Kahler was original. It looks original! Still a great guitar at a great price. Thanks for looking!
cmatthes Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Great guitar! Beautiful grain on that one.The surefire way you can tell if the Kahler is original (other than the year of production) is if it has the Sustainblock grommets on the back. Those didn't get put on Kahler guitars from the factory. That being said, those Protos are some of the only guitars where a Kahler really works for me.
GusS Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 I remember reading here many moons ago that a very small number of Protos/Phantoms or Specials may have had factory kahlers and sustain block ferrules.

I guess you can never say never with Hamer, but Kahlers weren't in regular commercial production when that Proto was made.

In any event, Kahlers weren't even made available on the market until late 1983.
