bruce919 Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 I bought the Hamer 81 Sunburst the "ACEBURST" as it is know around here a few months back. I am offering it up for trade now. it doe have a nice med. It has a much thicker neck them most Hamer I have played from that era. I am looking for an even trade for one of the following items: Hamer USA Newport P-90 Hamer USA Mirage 1 Hamer USA Newport Pro Hamer USA Artist (Maghogany or Korina) with 3 P-90's Hamer USA maple toped P-90 (or with mini Humbuckers) Reverend USA guitars plus some cash Gibson Les Paul Gem or maple toped Les Paul with P-90's or Mini Humbuckers Soldano amp USA PRS guitar Martin D-17 This guitar dose have some issues. At some time in its life some poor fool did a bad route for a pickup in the middle position & put some other type of hard tail bridge on it. I think Serial Steve got it & had BCR Greg do his voodoo to it. He put an org. Sustain block back on & added a Third Hubucker in the middle postion. It has a puch/pull knob on the tone to turn on/off the middle pickup. $1066 via paypal or $1030 cash. tess919 at verizon.net
DavidE Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Sure, go ahead and link to my photos. :-)Very cool guitar. Greg would probably add that his work was done within a budget and is not representative of his "best" work. Still, it's a great looking guitar with a cool look, a nice neck and it's a freakin' bound and crowned sunburst! I sold it only because I tend to prefer the newer Hamers over the vintage ones.
serial Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Sure, go ahead and link to my photos. :-) Um, the first photo there is mine and there are a few BCRGreg shots... Cool guitar that some numbskull hand chiseled for a Tele pickup in between the two pickups. Would have been a stone beauty w/o that "mod", but the third pickup covered up most of that sin.
bubs_42 Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Man is this guitar a Whore or what! She has been fingered by alot of guy's on this board. It is still won of the coolest Sunburst around. I'm still a fan of the Sunburst that you can take with you to a BBQ or Jam night without a fear of a dinging or scratch. Alast I have no trade bait. I'm going to go dig through in the seat cushions for my stash..
BCR Greg Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 This guitar is a bad ass.It was routed for a single in the middle when Serial gave it to me. Nice neck, great top, clean........If I didn't have 3 walls of guitars.......
Hamerphite Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 If the middle pickup were removed, a piece of maple fit in the cavity, and the area finished to match as closely as possible, what amount of money would that require, and what would be the expected result? I once saw a 59 les paul that had a routed cavity under the pickguard, it was repaired so well that it was tough to see it with the guard off, but on a guitar of that value no expense was spared for the repair. The repaired area has the same grain pattern and the same color -- it was quite amazing.
bruce919 Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 I always thought it would cool to do the PRS thing to it. Put a piece of maple in there that was close & put some type in inlay on the joints.
BCR Greg Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 $400-500 to do it right. That's a tough job on these guitars.I've done it, and it's a bear, timewise and figure matching is maddening. It sounds cool as hell with that pickup.
cmatthes Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 I was the second HFC'er to own that one. Cool guitar.
jerseydrew Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Every time I see that guitar up for sale, I really want it. My problem is I get tired of things rather quickly. Can I rent that guitar for six months?
DavidE Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Every time I see that guitar up for sale, I really want it. My problem is I get tired of things rather quickly. Can I rent that guitar for six months?Everyone else has since I sold it. :-) I think I owned it for a couple of years. I'd have to look up who I bought it from, but he used it for sure as it went from really clean to having some dings.
serial Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 It was a very cool guitar and with the pickup and wiring options (don't ask me what they are-I haven't owned that guitar in 7-8 years at this point and don't remember!), it was a great gigging instrument. Looks completely badassed too. The middle pickup (when I had it and they look the same) was an original Hamer/Dimarzio PAF from bridge position. The other two were NOS Dimarzio PAFs from more recent vintage, but they sounded really good.
BCR Greg Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Screw it, I need that guitar.Matt, call me today and we'll see what I have that will make it happen. That guitar is too frigging cool to be passed around like a cheerleader at a bowl game.
