atquinn Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Well, this showed up today, but it has a couple undisclosed dings, so I'll probably return it. It's actually very nice, but the fact that I didn't get exactly what I was expecting means that I'll end up selling it down the road anyway, so I might as well lett it go now. Here are the specs: 2004 Studio Custom Ebony fretboard w/ 10 victory inlays Chambered body (it's basically like an Artist Custom, only no f-hole) SD '59 pickups The original owner already put ebony buttons on the tuners, so balance isn't an issue (at least not with the leather straps I use). Here are some pics: The 2nd one shows 2 dings on the front of the body. They're very hard to photograph but you should be able to see where they are (the less-obvious one is to the left of the space in-between the 2 pickups). There are both through the clearcoat. I also have some close-up shots at http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v157/atq...tudio%20Custom/ There's a ding or 2 on the back (nothing through the finish) impressions on the back neck (nothing through the finish, but you can feel them under your thumb and see them if you tilt the neck around in the light), and light fretwear. Plays well and sound pretty dang good; the chambered really has a noticable affect on the sound. The bridge '59 can get a surprisingly nice range from clean to mean and the neck '59...well, it's woofy (but then, aren't they always ). If I wasn't such a finicky bastard, I'd keep it! Anyway, if you'd like to me to ship this to you for $975, let me know before the weekend's over. Otherwise, back to the seller it goes. Thanks for lookin'. -Austin
MCChris Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Yeah those dings would bug me too. But I might be able to get over them if I was getting a chambered Studio Custom with an ebony board for less than a grand!
gwayne Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Yeah those dings would bug me too. But I might be able to get over them if I was getting a chambered Studio Custom with an ebony board for less than a grand! NO shit! If I didn't have something else on its way to me I'd be all over this. (BTW, Austin is a total class act for anyone who's considering this)
DavidE Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Email sent. Please let me know if you got it since we had email problems on your blue one.
Punkavenger Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Yeah those dings would bug me too. But I might be able to get over them if I was getting a chambered Studio Custom with an ebony board for less than a grand!+1 ... seems like a very low price for a very nice geetar!
cmatthes Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 That is a great price for that guitar. Hell, strip the finish off of it and it's still a good deal!
atquinn Posted March 8, 2008 Author Posted March 8, 2008 Damnit people! O.k., you've convinced me to keep it (for now...). Since it already has some love marks and wasn't too expensive, it will make a good platform for some mad experiments. Still, as you all know by now, it will be on the block sooner or later... -Austin
BubbaVO Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 That's an awesome guitar for such a price. In general, I agree that you should be delighted with what you pay for. But dayum, considering the condition of guitars I've seen played by the likes of Gary Moore, SRV, EVH, etc., I agree with you...you are a picky bastard. ; )
sonic1974 Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 I think it looks awesome, love the finish. I used to be pretty conservative, going for mostly sunburts etc... but seeing some of the unique finishes on the board has really opened up my tastes. You crazy Americans with all your choices!
