Hamer Virgin - WTB - My first Hamer

I am a regular over at the OFC and so far I haven't considered myself enough of a solidbody player to seriously think that I "need" a Hamer... until lately!

I was sucked in by a Bursty Newport 12 string on Ebay recently - I did manage to come in 2nd place on the auction though.

I'm a bottom feeder that picks up the bent and broken Ovations and tries to repair, replace and improve some of the solidbodies that most never knew existed. Along the way I have held and posessed some real tools and artifacts. My prize is a 1985 Deacon made for Jim Messina that was sent back.

Dumb move Jim!

I did the Factory Tour in "06" was amaxed at both operations and got to spend some time at stonge's basement of continuous surprise!

Played a Hamer Newport 12 at a Tacoma music store that eventually made it back to Alpep.

So now that I think I'm actually an Electric Player and I don't want to play what every Guitar-Center-Playboy has, its time to commit.

If you are interested in Vipers, Deacons, Preachers or parts I can offer trades or build a Part-O-vation for you. If you occasionally need to play an Acoustic I have a couple of trade options there as well. Most recently I have a 1537-4 that I could toss in.

Today's Guitar Fund sit's at $700 but as we all know, there are frequent fluxuations when motivated.

I would love to pick up something like the Sunburst of Bub's!

During the day I sit behind a gov'mnt firewall so I don't get to see most of the pictures in the posts.

Anybody want to court the newby with a little green in his wallet? Whatcha got to sell?

There have been quite a few USA Hamers popping up here in your price range. I just grabbed a 25th Anniversary Artist myself. Some Specials, Artists, and Monacos run in the $700 to $800 range, and the rest climb from there. There are exceptions. Sunbursts seem to be climbing in value, so the bottom-feeder price is rare with that model. Good luck in your search.

I personally am not willing to part with any of mine, but, I'll share a couple tidbits of info...

Right now, AWESOME deals are there to be had if you look around. I've picked up 3 Hamers over the last 6 months (all AWESOME guitars), a 96 Mirage II for $800, a 92 Studio for $725, and an 84 Vector for $685. Keep skimming through this forum, and something will show up in your range.

No kidding! I grabbed a near mint Mirage I for < $800 and a STELLAR '95 Studio quilt top in MINT condition for $950. I've seen lots of other great deals on eBay. I almost grabbed a natural Duotone with a BIN of $699. Now is a great time to pick up Hamer deals. May not last long though.

I saw someone selling a FM special for $700 I think, check down this forum for the thread.

Fantastic guitars that are horribly under-priced; that should be a $1500-$2000 instrument used EASY if quality were used to determine value.

I have one and they are a steal at that price. I wouldn't sell mine for double that.

+1 on it being a great time to buy.

I've been broke for the last couple of months, and I've watched sadly as great Hamer after great Hamer has been trotted out at prices that would have had them sold in five minutes a year ago.

I love my FM .. great guitar !

Here's my favorite available Hamer (I presume still F/S). If I can't do it, maybe you can, and then I can take my mind off it. It's making me GAS-SY crazy...

Thanks for the welcome and the fast responses guys (and Betty's).

I need to drop in on my other Homees and sell some more stuff.

I nearly settled for a look-alike Off-shore Hamer but I know deep down I want a USA model.

The search goes on...

Hi there MWoody, great to see another person who is a member of both the HFC and the OFC! Do you have an idea of some things you're looking for in an electric (fixed bridge as opposed to tremolo; 24 3/4" scale as opposed to 25 1/2" scale; set neck as opposed to bolt on; hollow, semi-hollow, or solid body) or are you just looking for a good bargain in a used USA Hamer? Glad to hear you're holding out for a USA Hamer. There are some good import Hamers out there (and some not so good ones), but your extra money and patience will be rewarded when you find the USA Hamer that starts the Hamer Acquisition Syndrome most of us here suffer from  Since your an Ovation guy, you may want to look for a 1998 or newer USA Hamer so you can know it was made right next door to the Ovation stuff  Most of the used ones you'll find from the 80's and 90's were made in Arlington Heights, IL. It's been debated as to which factory makes/made better Hamers, but from my experience both are excellent playing, well made instruments that are really good values on the used market.

Be specific? Good point!

I prefer the looks of wood grain and love Abalone.

Couldn't play a Trem bar to save my life.

The Semi-Hollow body really appeals to me.

I am not a Shredder by any means, I actually prefer a heavier set of strings and to copy more Blues methods.

Right now these two appeal to me the most:

Korina

Custom

I need to sell a 1537 to get there.

Thanks guys! You have been a great help.

I'm out of money, can I hang around anyway?

Well bust my buttons, of course you can hang around! But you need to learn the secret handshake first.

F#m7b5 applied to a fellow HFCr forearm.

WARNING: apply it carefully and accurately. One small slip up can translate into "Hey sailor, can I buy you a drink?"
