thewitt Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Hi Guys Long time lurker - First time poster. The bad economy has finally hit home. Last one in is the first to go. Here's a great looking and playing Special. Checkerboard logo, quilt top, all stock - including OHSC (with key). This is a great guitar. You'll notice the 'Kelvin' on the TRC, I don't know if that's from the factory or not (not?). A strong 9.5 out of 10, I have detailed photos of the few blemishes on this beauty, just ask. I'm looking for $1250 Shipped. I'm in Vancouver BC and local purchase is just fine with me. I have 347 + on fleabay (timothybhewittesq) and am willing to converse via phone with serious buyers. Hope you like this one.
Chi Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Sweet one piece top. It almost looks like the body is bound in tortoiseshell....
thewitt Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 Thanks guys!It is a 1 piece top and 1 piece body as well.I forgot to add an email:timothybhewittesq at yahoo dot calm
specialk Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 You'll notice the 'Kelvin' on the TRC, I don't know if that's from the factory or not (not?). Wasn't that Tommy Shaw's middle name? Sorry, Nathan, it was meant in a good way....
BTMN Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I've heard at one point Hamer sent you a TRC with your first name on it when you sent in your warranty card. I have "Clay" on one of my Blitz guitars. Beautiful Special.
cmatthes Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Gene is correct - the truss rod cover personalization was a really nice touch, and definitely something that set Hamer apart from the other makers, even back then.
sw686blue Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 What's the neck profile?Really, really great looking guitar!
Aceldama Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Another request for a neck "feel". Also is that price US or Canadian $?
Feynman Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I believe 1250 Kelvin is 976.85 Celsius, right?Not too bad!
thewitt Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 Hi GuysThanks for the buzz. That price is U$ and I think fair.Feynman - Hilarious!About the TRC - Very cool, so that makes it 'stock' of sorts. As for the neck profile: It's really comfy. The top (near the nut) feels thicker, like some old junior's I've played, which is great for chording. But as it widens out it seems slimmer and comfy for bends. I can't really put a name on it as it's different than any LP or Strat I've played. If anyone needs to know specifics, I'll grab some calipers and measure it.Here are all the shots I have:http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/0/4/3/0/2...261987283_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/0/4/3/0/2...261987311_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/0/4/3/0/2...261987330_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/0/4/3/0/2...261987352_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/0/4/3/0/2...261987375_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/0/4/3/0/2...261987479_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/0/4/3/0/2...261987456_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/0/4/3/0/2...261987390_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/0/4/3/0/2...261987405_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/0/4/3/0/2...261987427_o.jpgThe wear on this guitar is very minimal for it's age. I've pointed out any flaws so you have no surprises later. Even the back is in great shape. Please remember that the photos make things look a bit different than in person. This looks mint from 5 feet away. Also, I forgot to mention that the PUs are not wired out of phase presently. An easy fix to return to stock.Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hamerphite Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Gene is correct - the truss rod cover personalization was a really nice touch, and definitely something that set Hamer apart from the other makers, even back then. another one
David B Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Gene is correct - the truss rod cover personalization was a really nice touch, and definitely something that set Hamer apart from the other makers, even back then. another one I've got one from '83 with my name. Man, I want that Special!

Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 You'll notice the 'Kelvin' on the TRC, I don't know if that's from the factory or not (not?). Wasn't that Tommy Shaw's middle name? Sorry, Nathan, it was meant in a good way.... It's clear I'm not ignored or forgotten around here, at least.
David B Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 How cool is that? Thanks for the follow-up guys.Veteran HFCer - Why not buy it? :-)I'm trying to figure out a way to get it from you!
thewitt Posted May 6, 2009 Author Posted May 6, 2009 I'm trying to figure out a way to get it from you!I hope that works out for both of us.
thewitt Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 I've had some questions about the case - It's in excellent condition and yes, the key works.
specialk Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Jeez, is this one still here? I thought it'd be gone the first day, really!
stormywaters Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Jeez, is this one still here? I thought it'd be gone the first day, really!Yeah, for reals.I'd be all over it (I love me some '82 Hamer guitars!), but I don't want to insult anyone (thewitt) with what I would pay for it.Oh well.
thewitt Posted May 12, 2009 Author Posted May 12, 2009 Yuppers - Still for sale. Lots of interest, but not quite there yet. Don't be afraid to 'insult' me with offers, I'm happy to hear from anyone who would like to purchase.Someone will end up with a great guitar!
