So is Angel Dust .. but it works!

Mine were in the $400 range brand new. When I saw what they went for on the bay I pulled them and they sold for $655. They're nice, but not that nice. If you must have them google Tom and order your own set. I was surprised when they came in two weeks.

I hope that guy is going to put them in a glass case and not use them. And is only buying them as a pure investment. Because if he thinks they are some kind of voodoo magic and the best pickups ever built and make him play like a rock star, he's sorely mistaken.

What? I can't believe you said that. Put 'em in, crank it up! They are very nice pickups if you are going for the PAF thing, especially in a semi-hollow. I just thought it was interesting that while many items are going down in value these keep going up!

Damn -- wish I bought the pair that were offered here about six months ago for a VERY friendly HFC bro price. Was it less than $300 for the pair?

I interviewed Tom right around the time that his pickups went from $125 apiece to $250 per. He told me that he wasn't really into making pickups and wanted to get back into guitar making, but he kept getting orders in. He raised the price to $250 apiece and figured that would get him out (had to figure in the hassle factor) and as soon as he upped them, someone ordered ten sets at that price. They're really nice pickups, but personally, I really like the Gregwind WBs that I have better.

Same d'bag is also selling a Pigtail Stop/Tuna set for $425?

Posted

That's crazy. For the investment it might be OK --well, I dunno... However, unless you're into serious cork sniffing, I'm sure you can get a great (and I mean really GREAT) PAF tone for a fraction of that price.

Clearly, it isn't about the tone. It's about bragging rights!

.. and I think Ernie likes his RS True 60's better, too. There are some great choices out there.

I wouldn't be surprised if you had your eye on those Tom Holmes Filtertrons!

The neck pickup in your Sunburst would rival some of the best.

Ok, well.. who has Barry Menary pups.. hmmmm yea, I didnt think so-

I will be offering them to HFC members for a mere $100,000 for a complete set-

I can break them up but it will cost you $60,000 for either the bridge or neck-

These are guaranteed to go up in value to $250,000 per set within about a month or so after the word gets out-

Alright-- just kidding around-

What is so great about these Tom Pups.... anyone????

I bought a set from Tom 2 years ago for $560.00 and at that time the word was he quit doing them. It took an email to find out. 3 weeks wasn't too long a wait for me. Same with a Klon. $350.00 from Bill in about 2-3 weeks or pay $450.00 and up for a used one.

A few years ago I bought a used, top of the line, flametop Robin Avalon for $750. It had a pair of Tom Holmes humbuckers in it. I sold the guitar a few years later for $750 but took out the pickups before I sold it.

I don't normally buy into cork-sniffery, but I gotta tell you, these are some really great sounding pickups...

Holmes pickups are some of the best sounding around but I'm with you on the variety available that can do dang near the same thing. None of them do for me what practice has, that's for sure.

If I pay that much for a set of pickups, there had better be a blow job involved in the transaction. And not from Tom Holmes...
