RobB Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 WOOF! Now, there's something ya don't see every day. Really interesting piece. The headstock looks like it belongs on an ancient, gut-stringed instrument. Cool!
belgian Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Only one, wasn't convinced on it at first, but recently restringed it and now it sings.
cmatthes Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Speaking of 12's - I saw the Church last night at the Park West in Chicago. 30 year anniversary accoustic set. Pretty much played one song from each of their albums (is it really 23? crap where does the time go? ). They also did a cool cover of disarm. Lots of instrument swapping - those guys are really pretty talented. It was a great show and they played a 12 on almost every song. Very cool - MWP is a RIC GOD.
crunchee Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Edited to add: Sorry for the old contrasty/crap photos. I REALLY need a better camera. Twelves that I used to have: My favorite design, the Squier Venus XII--Japan made, Fender XII string-thru style bridge, twin Seymour Duncan (not Duncan Designed!) XII pickups, basswood body. Compact and fairly lightweight, sounded pretty good, about as close to a Fender XII that I could get without robbing the bank. A Japanese-made Epiphone Riviera Elite/Elitist XII I once had. Basically a 335-12 with mini-hums. Weighed a ton. I also once had a Hamer USA Eclipse XII in candy green. I got rid of my twelves as I was always frustrated with the sound, never could get them to sound the way I wanted to, I thought the B and high E strings were a weak link (unison strung instead of octave strung), plus I wanted something a bit more versatile. Has anybody experimented with pedals to make a six-string electric sound like a twelve? Maybe a chorus + a compressor in some combination? Any recommendations?
cmatthes Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 BD - you didn't get that one from Bruce M., did you? I've had an electric 12 continuously since 1986 (the hat was not my idea, and I swear I was 100% sober when this pic was taken!):
