Hamerhack Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I've had this a week now, it's a blast to play! Guitar and photos courtesy of BCR Greg. Let's see your 12 strings! How often do you play 'em? What do you play on them?
cmatthes Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I sold my Eclipse XII to Conrad last year, and missed it so much that I got this one from Peter: Couldn't be happier with it - gets that RIC jangle for days, and is one of the best 12 string electrics I've ever played. Add the Janglebox, and it does it all, but 10x better. It may not be a daily player, but it hasn't been back in the case since March - I grab it to play a LOT. If you have a 12, definitely check that box out.
Hamerhack Posted August 26, 2009 Author Posted August 26, 2009 I saw that one when Peter listed it, and was definitely tempted!Love the flamed top!
Bloozguy Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I was tempted as well when Peter sold that one...but so far my Eclipse fills the 12-string bill quite nicely. Not an everyday player, but that Byrds/Petty urge comes around pretty often
BCR Greg Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Here are some old shots of the 6 Duo12s, I used a borrowed camera and it wasn't very good.... Natural, Jazzburst and BCR Blue Sparkle(the only one in that color)... Natural with Minis(the only one with minis).. The other Jazzburst... Another shot of the BCR Blue Sparkle... And mine was the only red one and the only bound and crowned. Some others came along after we got the door opened, but these guitars were a labor of love.
Sam Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Purchased one of these for my high school band back in '96 (we wanted to do Eight Miles High ) Ended up taking 6 strings off a couple of years later. It's clear to me now that I needed some kind of compressor to make it useful.
bubs_42 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I can't see the Blue Sparkle at work but I was just thinging Blue Sparkle would be awsome! Love those old LP Deluxes with the blue sparkle finish.
tomteriffic Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Purchased one of these for my high school band back in '96 (we wanted to do Eight Miles High ) Ended up taking 6 strings off a couple of years later. It's clear to me now that I needed some kind of compressor to make it useful. \ I regularly use one of these in trans blue (sorry no pix handy) and out of the box, I'd have to agree. But I put in a set of GFS rails and it did wonders for it. It goes to every gig with me now. Me, the money and a Hamer 12 never seem to come together at the same time, though.
gorch Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Damn nice 12-show. It seems that every model has a 12 on the list. Has someone seen a 12 stringed Standard?
cmatthes Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 There have been a few. The old Hamer string ads from the late '70s had a bound "Split V" Standard headstock in it. One of our members scored the 3 P90 4-digit Standard 12 string that was at the first 2 HFC Open Houses at the factory 10+ years ago.I had one all spec'd out and was preparing to order (flametop, full body/neck/head binding, "Split V" head, crowns), but then became smitten with the Monaco 3 and switched up my order at the last minute.Another member ordered one from Alpep a few years ago, but I think he sold that one last year (??).There have been (of course!) a bunch of 12 string Standard basses over the last 30 years.
Devnor Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Pretty poor pic of my Chap 12 string. I bought this for $600 in 1987...still have it.
Jason01 Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 I don't know why but this just cracks me up. Oh wait, yes I do....http://cgi.ebay.com/89-90-Carvin-DC120-12-...id=p3286.c0.m14

mc2 Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Vox Hollowbody Teardrop 12 ...GREAT 12!! I've recorded a lot with this one. Has the Vox trebleboost built in that McGuinn put in his Rics to get that Byrds sound!! Sounds more like a Ric than a Ric. Nice wide fingerboard....palm wah (hahaha) 84 Prototype and 84 Phantom 12 & 6 Cali Doubleneck....***Anyone know who this was made for?? It's NOT in the Hamer factory logs. Came from California. Setneck, marble Jim O'Connor paint all around, LEDs...
jwhitcomb3 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 All these pictures inspired me to actually play mine! Here are some noodlin' through my Fender Cyber Deluxe. Noodlin' -Jonathan
cmatthes Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Would love to see that in the flesh! I'll bring it by one of these days! It's great.
HSB0531 Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I've had this since early January and I could not be happier! The Bartolini's sound great. The treble p/u alone makes it sound like a Rick 12 with a big set of balls. A nice touch courtesy of Greg at BCR: This top shows the kind of pull Greg has with the woodshop guys:
daa2202 Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Funny that I should stumble across this thread today - this one just joined the herd yesterday. I would still be tempted by a Newport 12 at the right price, however. I'm still kicking myself for missing one on eBay about 2 years ago for under $1,200. But this PRS (a 2005 Custom 22/12, now a discontinued model) will be a worthy 12-string companion for now.
dboy66 Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Speaking of 12's - I saw the Church last night at the Park West in Chicago. 30 year anniversary accoustic set. Pretty much played one song from each of their albums (is it really 23? crap where does the time go? ). They also did a cool cover of disarm. Lots of instrument swapping - those guys are really pretty talented. It was a great show and they played a 12 on almost every song.
