JohnnyB Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 It appears that Amazon is blowing out some $1375-1550 list Deans for $349-399. Correction: According to BTMN, the resident Dean expert, these are high level Korean models with pickups and parts quality characteristic of USA models. Go here. Some of the guitars listed are obviously imports, but they have $1375 to $1549 Split Tails, Stealths, and a Razor Back (some with Floyds) for $349 to $399. Plus an ML Burl Wood Exotic (Czech Republic?) with free shipping for $299.
Jason01 Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 You sure those are USA? I looked at some other ones on their site and they say USA in the titles? I don't know crap about deans though so anythings possible. I wonder if you could cut the horns off one of those split tails and make a V out of it? I just can't get into that design.
Scooter Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 No way are those USA models. Good prices, though.

I just can't get into that design. You're free to visit Dean's website, download their catalog, and/or call Amazon to see. I would think that a $1550 retail would be USA-made, or if an import would be at a very high quality level. Some of the pickups are labeled Seymour Duncans (NOT Duncan-Designed). The Dean ML is an Explorer top and Vee bottom. The Cadillac is an Explorer top and LP bottom. The Split Tail is an SG top with a Vee bottom. Maybe these blowouts are designs that didn't catch on, but it's still a very high level guitar at a pawnshop or Indonesian price.
atquinn Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Given that they are using licensed Floyd Roses and not the real thing, I'm thinking import. Manufacturers can set the reail price at whatever they want, so a high retail price isn't really any indication of origin. Don't care enough about Dean to try to verify this though! -Austin

BTMN Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 They are all Korean made imports. Buncha folks buying them. Me, I'd like a Cherry Splittail but I'm broke. These are discontinued models IIRC. Last ofs so to speak.
Submariner85 Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Yeah, they're pretty high quality Koreans with some US parts. The Angel Of Deth I had had Livewires, tonepros, flush mount strap locks and retailed for about 1400 but was Korean.I went ahead and got a Performer and a Stealth from Amazon. Thanks again for the heads up.
backinit Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Would love to get a performer, but I would love to stay married as well.
JohnnyB Posted October 11, 2009 Author Posted October 11, 2009 Would love to get a performer, but I would love to stay married as well. That Exotic Wood ML is awfully hard to pass up at $299.

lord nelson Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I played a vast selection of import Deans some time ago, and the Stealth and razorback V were my favourites. Felt very solid
moparmagic Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 if i hadnt orded a cheap-o v yesterday. story of my life
