RoyB Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 A little while back there was a topic about a special run Standard http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.p...amp;hl=standard And in it I suggested a Korina Standard Jr and BCR Greg said he had the same idea and had went to Hamer and found it higher than a Standard Custom, so I thought there might be room for a RS version. Here are some early photos from the build. All the specs are taken from my 81 Standard except the neck that's based on a real 54 Gibson neck (not the oversized R4). The specs are going to be a Fralin Humbucking P-90 dog ear, RS Vintage electronics, RS steele tailpiece studs, new US made billet aluminum Stop tailpiece, TonePros Kluson tuners and a TKL Checkerboard case with pink lining. I'm thinking a run of six and a retail of about $2600. Any interest?
bubs_42 Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Man, I was wanting a Jr? This is going to be good BTW.
cmatthes Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Out of curiousity, how thick are you making the body on these?Looks great so far, and a very cool concept.
RoyB Posted October 16, 2009 Author Posted October 16, 2009 Out of curiousity, how thick are you making the body on these?Looks great so far, and a very cool concept. The same as the four digit standard, so it's 1 9/16" (really just a touch over).
cmatthes Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Roy - have you decided on how you're doing the guard for this one? I'm not typically a fan of that headstock, but it really looks right here. A reminder of the original "Concept" shot for the clicking-impaired:
gorch Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 This a very nice project. I'm looking forward to see this finished.
ArnieZ Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 I don't see myself ever owning an Explorer shaped guitar, though I generally do think they're cool looking. I personally don't care for the forked headstock.ArnieZ
RoyB Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 Is that a good thing??? Oh by the way the Dean Korina V came in and is clean as a pin (no neck joint crack at all), so thanks for the tip.
BTMN Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Is that a good thing? Oh yeah except for me and my current financial outlook for custom order Korina Standard Juniors given the current Dean custom order I put in back in August. RoyB that Jr. looks great. Cant wait to see the final results. Glad the Czech is nice! I had the Trans Amber out all week since you went for yours.
RoyB Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009 Here it is routed for the pickup and drilled for the bridge. Next is the controls and tuner holes.
gorch Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 More text please and it looks like Jol's workshop blog. Great to see it develop.
mirrorimij Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 What type of tuners will these get? I vote for the 3 on a strip tuners.
Steve Haynie Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 The Junior pickguard shape does not work well with the Explorer body. The body angles need an angular pickguard. The Junior pickguard work on the Strat/Junior that Fender did because of the lines of the body shape. In this case it would look better with a pickguard like what was originally on Gene's mini-Standard.
