proxmax Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 the first pix from my new cali, as i got her..... there is some work to do but has a good base - a fantastc player. the earlier owner removed the finish from the neck and changed the color from yellow pearl to alpine white. for now i leave it like it is, but for later i think about to paint it again completely. it is very lightweighted, about 1 pound lighter than my maple calis. sounds dry very loud and percussive with a looooong sustain. amplified i'll check tomorrow. -klaus
Punkavenger Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 YAY BOOMERS! Fantastic! Looks great man ... It looks good white, maybe you could have a pro paint the yellow bits white to match the rest?
proxmax Posted January 17, 2010 Author Posted January 17, 2010 that's what i wanna do.difficult will be to "whiten" the yellow at the headstock without destroyingthe longer decal part of the R.you are right the next paintjob has to be pro-made,the guitar is worth it.
marcnorth Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 The neck joint looks the same as an Impact Bass.
serial Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Better to replicate the original yellow finish-far rarer and cooler-looking. Most set neck Calis were white...
atquinn Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Better to replicate the original yellow finish-far rarer and cooler-looking. Most set neck Calis were white... I wouldn't go for the original yellow myself, but white is pretty standard for setneck Calis (that's the color mine was and the color of the only one I've seen on eBay years ago). I'd go for some sort of tasteless flip-flop or snakeskin myself. But I'm crazy. -Austin

Most set neck Calis were white...you do think i can get that yellow pearl laquer from hamer,or at least the color brand and identification?it would be the easiest this way.
Hardrockracer Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Hey Promax,I know that guitar and I know the previous owner. I used to play in a band with him. Very nice guitar. I cannot believe he sold it as it is a great twanger. But congrats. Not sure if he oiled the stripped neck but if he did you will have trouble painting the neck. Cheers,HRR

cmatthes Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 You wouldn't be able to get the paint from Hamer, but could probably easily match it. Hamer had color chips on a ring and in a binder back in the late '80s/mid'90s. A few HFC'ers have those, and one might be willing to lend it to you or to help you find a match.Try emailing Stike too - he'd be the guy I'd ask...
proxmax Posted January 19, 2010 Author Posted January 19, 2010 thx for the advice - i'll cöntact stike.edit: i emailed.......
bubs_42 Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Setneck and White would be one of my Dream Guitars. What a looker.
proxmax Posted January 20, 2010 Author Posted January 20, 2010 i agree, white looks great on this guitar.the only problem is the yellow painted headfront with the decal over it.so a repainting in yellow would be the easiest and most authentic looking.
HSB0531 Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I'd refin in the original yellow.But that's just my preference.

Sound like the most reasonable plan. Serious guitar no matter what the color.
RacerX Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I like the raw neck feel, so I'd be tempted to leave that. I think I'd rock it just as it sits!
