I think during the site being down, my info and posts were lost. Would anybody who emailed me regarding the Scepter bass with LEDs and the Ebayed purple Chaparral (now considered stolen as I had only loaned it to someone who I never heard from again!), please contact me again! Thanks!

You mean that's stolen! I almost tossed in my bid. Glad I didn't.

I know it's not the seller. He's in Ohio and I'm in Milwaukee. I loaned the bass to a "friend" in Green Bay about 4 years ago. I tried to get a hold of him a few times since then, but never found him until this spring--at which point he told me that the bass is fine. I am "considering" it stolen to make him jump. Regardless, it's coming back to me. I emailed Ebay and the seller. I just don't want the seller to come out short for no reason, you know?

Tommy:

Your bass was also on eBay a few years ago too - same exact one. I think there was even a thread here on it. I don't think it was you selling it then either!

Hey Tommy: IM the guy selling this bass On Ebay, I bought it about a year ago from a dealer on e bay(I think it was in denver,Im looking for paperwork) I have asked everyone trying to find out who tommy Hahn was. Even as far as calling Kim at the factory. I started To have to many guitar& basses laying around. So I thought about selling it. I listed it about 5 Times And Every time I got a dead beat bidder. I think it might be cursed. This sucks I know the feeling of loseing a instrument. I just don't know how to proceed with this. I paid about $500.00 for it. Im thinking the music store should be Accountable???? I will not sell this until this is cleared up. Anybody with any Ideas. Thanks Steve Starynchak.

I was in that same situation years back-I purchased a guitar from a dealer (actually a large chain). They ended up having to pick up the tab-they never ran a serial number check when they took it in and there had been a police report with the number filed, etc. As cool of a guitar as it was, I felt much better about getting it back to the original owner who had gotten it as an anniversary gift years before.

Wise man say "foolish to sell stolen bass with owners name on headstock".

Tommy and Steve - I hope the dealer comes through. It would suck to see either of you get screwed.

Anybody in the Green Bay area that can pay Tommy's "friend" a visit?

Hey guys: I have taken the listing off of Ebay, Tommy call me. Steve (216) 526-6285. Sorry to the guys that have bidded on it. It is truely a nice Bass. (Im also a sucker for guitars with LED's)

Gator: Be sure to protect yourself and get a copy of the police report directly from the police. And be sure Tommy is who he says he is. Blah blah blah... the usual. Probably all legit, but it's easy to make sure and worth your time.

Tommy's real. He's a good guy, and I'll whack anyone that sez oddurwize.

I remember that one it was the ultra cool white Steve stevens I. I found that one at atomic guitars but passed since i got a bad vibe from it. That whole situation suked but you did the right thing.

Thanks, Greg! My cohorts here at Hal Leonard say to file a police report as it is now "stolen" seeing as how all I did was loan it to him and he sold without my knowledge. Now, with the police report, it would officially make the bass stolen property. that means that it would have to be returned no matter what. HOWEVER I'm not going to call anything home until things are properly traced back to whoever bought it from the culprit in the first place. As there was no way to know that it was stolen (however I'd love to hear the conversation when he was asked about the name on the headstock...it was probably something like, "Tommy Hahn?? I never heard of him! Who was or is he???") no one should have to get stuck paying for it...least of all my man, Steve, who has been a prince about the whole matter.

Well, it isn't actually THAT simple... There are some fuzzy legal issues here.

The one that I got was sold from one dealer (Atomic, I suppose) to someone who later sold it to a large chain (GC). This can be a fuzzy area and there are questions that remain unanswered at this point unfortunately. At least with my situation, it was clearly stolen and there was a police report in advance that made it easy. I'm sure that this isn't the case here, but one of the reasons that I took the Registry offline years ago was that people would email me (on two separate occasions) claiming that an instrument was theirs and had been stolen (my guitars were listed at the end). One of those two times I knew the lineage of the instrument and was able to call BS on the guy. He apparently had seen the online registry and thought he'd pull something over quickly. I suspect the same thing with the other, but I never heard back after asking for additional info.

Hmmm...what do you think I should do? I'm still hoping that he calls tonight so that I won't have to go through a big mess to get money to Steve for the bass. I don't even know why I want that cursed thing back! I think it's because I'm not in the business of giving away guitars!!!

Any thoughts anyone?

Please pardon my ignorance here, I asked it before when I saw this bass. Who is Tommy Hahn? Sorry to sidetrack the thread, I was hoping someone would clue us in here but they forced my hand and curiousity got the better of me. I think it would be pretty funny to just point at the headstock to the police and watch the creep you loaned the bass to squirm. Welcome to the board Tommy, both the purple one and the scepter seem really cool.

p.s. if you wanna loan me guitars or basses I promise not to sell em! :D

You're on, Jason! What do you need??

Here's the deal...

Steve (gatorbyte007)--a credit to the cause, king among men, true mercinary for the Hamer name--has been great! (Take a bow, Steve!) So communicative and helpful above and beyond! he gave me the name of the store where he got it (Mad House in Green Bay...so the guitar's first stop), their number and even the Ebay number! I called Mad House and they were just as receptive and very apologetic. The guy didn't even give false info! What did he think I was gonna say when I showed up at the door looking for my bass???

For the moment, I won't be filing a police report. We decided that I would wait to hear from him first. We'll all sit tight and keep going along as normal while i try to figure out how to get Steve's money back to him, MH's money back to them and the bass back to that urban legend, Tommy Hahn!

Just who is he??? Bass guru?? No. bass player for one hit wonders, Ace od Base?? Um...no. Some dude sitting in his apartment in Wauwatosa, WI waiting for his "rich and famous contract to come in the mail?" WILL WE EVER FIND OUT???

Thanks again for ALL of your help! I look forward to chatting more and getting to know you all better--when my mind isn't elsewhere! Thanks for the exciting and action-packed first day in the Hamer fan club!
