Jason Hook of Five Finger Death Punch at RS

RoyB

Question

Posted

We are building a custom guitar for Jason, so when 5FDP played in Lexington KY he came to the shop and later invited us to the show. He's a great guy and meeting him and going to the show made for a great day. Here are a couple of shots of him in the shop and in action as well as some of his guitar in the works.

This is absolutely the shiznick!

Five Finger Death Punch is hands down the hottest name in metal today.

Hell, Roy... you actually did something that Hamer couldn't even do.

This is an obvious testament to RS Guitarworks' commitment to quality and service.

All of my metalhead friends go ballistic whenever they hear some 5FDP

RS Guitarworks certainly SCORED on this one, Jason is insanely BAD ASS!!!

Thanks guys, Jason is indeed a bad ass and so is 5FDP. Lucky for us he's one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet and a gear head to the bone. I had fun this week calling Floyd Rose and telling them I needed a Low Pro that would work with .013-.070 tuned from B-B. Funny I don't think they get that request too often.

Just recently discovered these guys (yea I know I'm like 3 years behind the times!) and they flat out rock! Jason tunes B to B like the bottom 6 of a seven string?

The whole band is down to B, so it's really like they are playing baritone but on a standard 24.75" scale guitar.

Here are some shots of the guitar just about done with the wood work.

whats the tube thingie?

It's plastic wire loom he used that to cover the wires in his explorer and wanted to keep it on this one to make it look military.

We just shot the base coat OD green today and will be doing the graphics tomorrow. It's coming along very nicely so far.

So the body says sergeant but the inlays say captain? Kudos on the 5fdp logo on the back of the headstock, thats a really neat touch!

psst. not sure if it matters but I think if its going to be correct with the sergeant major star in the middle it needs a third lower stripe. Maybe I'm mistaken though.

Yep it's a strange thing with the railroad tracks on the neck and the sgt stripes. Jason loves military stuff and just wanted everything to be military. The Sgt stripes are wrong for sure, but he did not like the look of the third lower stripe and the three up two down is on all his Explorers.

I like that alot. I'm not too keen on the front routed wiring but to each his own. What kind of pickup did you use?

The wire loom to the toggle switch is Jason's signature deal and is on all his guitars. I kind of like it because it's got a military look about it. The pickup is a Lindy Fralin made RS/Fralin PAF that is lightly potted. We chose it because he hates hot pickups.

Good goddamn, man. That's probably the only Explorer "fiddling-with" that I've ever liked, and I like it a LOT!

What do you expect when the builder collects Explorers

Well we went to Cincinnati OH to see 5FDP and to take Jason his guitar. He used it for more songs than any other guitar and really seemed to like it. Here is a link to him using it

Here are some shots of the night.
