What is Fender doing with Hamer

Fender purchased the parent company of Hamer last year. In a nutshell, I have heard that they are stopping the import line, that Hamer will continue as a custom builder of USA models and work on signatue Guild models. Also Fender has ordered retailers to discount all current Hamer USA inventory. I noted some killer deals at Jay Wolfe Guitars. Any other information?

I visited a Hamer dealer over the weekend. He said essentially the same thing though he talked like all of them may go away.

Not enough volume.

I've heard that as well, but AFAIK, it's been going on for quite some time. Last year, I bought an Artist Custom from Jay Wolfe, and bought a Studio Custom from Elduave, both at killer prices. I see that Wilcutt's has some good prices as well on remaining Hamer stock.

How can Fender tell dealers to lose money on their stock? I don't get that.

They could threaten to pull the rest of the line, although I'm not seeing where FMIC is telling dealers that they have to sell for below cost.

I don't mean lose money as in selling for below cost, I mean lose money as in selling for less then the market will bear. Dealers are in business to sell things to make money...

Unfortunately, below cost is what the market seems to be bearing on Hamers these days.

Disturbing information... Any comments from the dealers on this forum, or the inner circle people?

I'll take what Chris M, says as Gospel concerning New Hartford.

And i would love to see them re-introduce the Sunburst as originally made.

I think if they had a production model, this one could be affordable to the masses.

Keep the options, and the finishes to a minimum.

Well - I wouldn't take anything that I say/write as gospel. :D If it comes from New Hartford directly - from the mountain - then take that as gospel for the present time.

Ok, gospel is a little much, but you were at the N.H. shop and you do have better, more accurate sources than a lot of us.
