jisham Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Killer thread Dave...all these give me the chills. Thanks.I'll add one that surprised me -- big time. I'd never listened to one thing by this guy (or this type of music really) but it was on SNL with a host I had to see. Great stuff...insanely good band:Medley
unfun75 Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Neil Young doing "Rockin' in the Free World" on SNL and LL Cool J with full band doing "Mama Said Knock You Out" on MTV.
Ranger Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Zappa sliming folks on SNL in 1976. Hard for me to find a good "english" version, this has spanish subtitles.
Bass Guy Dave Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Well, this was from the year I was born, but--it's still the single most moving thing I've seen musically on TV. Probably my benchmark for songwriting and performance. And some Little Richard with more shakin' than moving http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bEmJW2sOUs...feature=related
elduave Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 Cherone was ruined by his time with VH. They tried to make him into Sammy and for the life of me I cannot figure out why they did that. Everyone blames Cherone for that fiasco but I seriously doubt that he had *any* input on the sound of that album. If they would have just let him do his thing they would have kicked ass...but alas, it wasn't to happen.I think he came out fine the other side. Check out Extreme live if they come by your town. Also, check out the news live in Boston DVD. Buy Saudades De Rock. It's one of the best current CD's by a "hair band".

humfree Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Ann and Nancy Wilson at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame playing Battle of Evermore. I did not follow them after Roger Fisher.. I don't feel like I've heard an actual 'Heart' song since Dog and Butterfly - what can I say? I'm set in my ways. Did anyone see that show where they covered the entire 'Dreamboat Annie' album? What a horrible guitar player they drug out for that.. and in the interviews they never acknowledged Roger Fisher or the man that gave them their Zeppelin feel, Michael Derosier - forever underrated. Couldn't they just have gotten a restraining order to keep him away from their end of the stage?
elduave Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 Did anyone see that show where they covered the entire 'Dreamboat Annie' album? What a horrible guitar player they drug out for that.. Damn. Craig Bartock is excellent IMO. Horrible? Plus he looks like Tim Robbins. I did see see Roger Fisher lay a big ol' turd at a NAMM event once though. Edited to add, you've inspired me to pop in that DA DVD.
Guest JackButler Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Everytime someone post it up on youtube SNL/NBC pulls it right back down.. but Skid Row's performance of "Monkey Business" on Saturday Night Live was about as raw and dead-on tight as you'd want.

My fave Heart moment is the vid of when dude finally snaps after his relationship with Nancy was in the toliet and his proceeds mid song to just have a fit and start smashing stuff.. starting with his LP.
Jones Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Two Prince moments...at the Superbowl playing "Purple Rain" in the rain, and playing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony.

elduave Posted August 6, 2010 Author Posted August 6, 2010 Just thought of this one. Crowes Chris and Rich and the ladies on Conan after 9/11:
cmatthes Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 It wasn't aired on network TV, but the version of "My Back Pages", from the Dylan 30th Concert still gets me. The firepower on that stage for that one was amazing. Possibly the last really good guitar solo I've heard outta Clapton! (The really good version of this video got taken down by Sony recently)
BubbaVO Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Still gives me chills. When I saw it live it literally brought tears to my eyes. yup. amazing performance. seized the moment. best front man - evah.
Rodan Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Zappa sliming folks on SNL in 1976. Hard for me to find a good "english" version, this has spanish subtitles. +1! These two have also stuck with me - and Poor Jeff. Check out Dr. Johns solo, though! Blammo! Zappa sliming folks on SNL in 1976. I saw this rebroadcast on some video show, back in the early '80's. Screw the lyrics, these guys were a locomotive!
hamerican gigolo Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Bettye Lavette's rendition of " Love Reign O'er Me " at the Kennedy Honors in tribute to The Who. Sends chills down my spine. Sorry don't have the link.
