edgar_allan_poe Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Yes, I agree Eddie and Dave are the main attractions, but without Michael's background vocals (which I heard were sampled/midi tracked on the last tour) a lot of the trademark VH sound will be missing.Exactly my point. How ill it be missing if it is there...even if it is done through harmonizers or tapes.
Russ Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 (Shit, I could play every VH bass line the second day I had a bass)
edgar_allan_poe Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 (Shit, I could play every VH bass line the second day I had a bass)Understood, but how many of those backup vocal notes can you hit?
Stike Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Yes, I agree Eddie and Dave are the main attractions, but without Michael's background vocals (which I heard were sampled/midi tracked on the last tour) a lot of the trademark VH sound will be missing.Exactly my point. hamerhead Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 The REAL question is : Will Ed use a pedal to get his sound?(ducks)
MCChris Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Exactly my point. How ill it be missing if it is there...even if it is done through harmonizers or tapes. The visual of Eddie's fat, unworthy son on stage would create a void for me. It is a concert, after all. Visuals count at a concert.(Shit, I could play every VH bass line the second day I had a bass)"Mean Street"? "Push Comes to Shove"? Doubtful.
polara Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Shouldn't VH rumors be a sticky at the top of the HFC board? *yawn* You know, it's not 1979 any more. The thought of another "booze 'n' boobs" cock-rawk band trying to continue that schtick after they're in their 50s is depressing. They can still play and who knows might have great songs in 'em, but the thought of AARP cardholders in Lycra, singing about bonin' in the back seat after school, fills me with the creeping horrors! If they put out a rockin' record about being grown-up I'll be interested.
edgar_allan_poe Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Because there will be petty grudge holders like me who think the bothers VH are giant douchebags for screwing over MA with basically no good reason to.Hey don't get me wrong...I agree with you guys. Unfortunately that vast majority do not. The shit they pulled with putting Wolfgang on the cover of VHI was/is TOTAL bullshit of the highest order.
MCChris Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 The shit they pulled with putting Wolfgang on the cover of VHI was/is TOTAL bullshit of the highest order.WHAT??? I had no idea they did that.

If that is the case, my respect for the brothers just plummeted.
Russ Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Sorry guys, my post was an attempt (obviously unappreciated) at humor. I was a big VH fan up through andincluding 1984. They just completely lost me at that point, and frankly, haven't paid any attention to them at all since, either the music or the sagas.
Ethan Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Yeah, that is what I really missed at that show, Michael Anthony's stage presence. They had tracks for the background harmonies which was lame, I know a lot of bands do it but when I got the Chickenfoot record, there they were! I know the majority don't care and I'm putting myself further in the minority by saying this-I always loved those records and the guitar work, but just as much as EVH influenced me, the fact is that I have played bass in more bands in my life than guitar, and in that aspect Mike has influenced me just as much to tell the truth. It just doesn't seem like Van Halen without him.
veatch Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 The shit they pulled with putting Wolfgang on the cover of VHI was/is TOTAL bullshit of the highest order.WHAT??? I had no idea they did that.I wasn't aware of that either. I'll have to look for pics... Or it didn't happen... <ducks again>If they did, Chickenfoot should put a picture of Wolfie on the cover of their next album. That would be fookin' hysterical...
MCChris Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 If they did, Chickenfoot should put a picture of Wolfie on the cover of their next album. That would be fookin' hysterical...Indeed. For I can't think of a bigger insult than to be pictured on a Chickenfoot album.
edgar_allan_poe Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I can't believe you guys didn't hear about that. Evidently when VH got back together to do the last tour, they had the VHI picture up on their web page and Wolfgang was there instead of MA> The fans went ballistic and VH pulled it and said it was a joke. Most were not amused.
harry65 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 The shit they pulled with putting Wolfgang on the cover of VHI was/is TOTAL bullshit of the highest order. WHAT??? I had no idea they did that. +10.000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please tell me you're joking....................
MCChris Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure I recall them doing that on an image on their website. Should they ever do the same on a released copy of the album, they will have sunk to the absolute bottom.
edgar_allan_poe Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Here is a small photo and a commentary on the issue. Warning for language...http://www.drawerb.com/2007/08/14/eddie-va...ionist-history/
frank_c Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 My favorite memory of VH3 was throwing the cd out of the car window. Oddly enough, that's the same favorite memory I have of Velvet Revolver's debut.Aerosmith's Just Push Play out of the top of the Jeep for me...

Rocktuna Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Love VH I have all the CD's, most all of the Sammy and Dave solo stuff too.Loaning my buddy the VH3 CDHe says, "I'll get this back to you Monday"Me, "don't bother, keep it"I remember reading an interview with Gary Cherone before the CD came out in which he said that it was all Eddie. It was like an Eddie solo album.Right away I thought, Ok, he doesn't want to be blamed for it. Then I heard the CD.
SteveB Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 My drummer's girlfriend's sister's cassette copy of Supertramp's "Breakfast in America" out of the passenger window of her car on the NJ Turnpike for me.good choice.
