crunchee Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 That's happened to me a few times. If it's REALLY crazy money, I'll do it and haven't had any regrets. Can't play 'em all anyway and it helps me knock stuff off of my bucket list! +1. Everything has it's price! Unfortunately, my best offer is tree fitty.
Craig S Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Can't help on the year... might have an 83' but I haven't decided on that one yet either..It's my main right now so unless I find something I like better...
bubs_42 Posted January 25, 2012 Author Posted January 25, 2012 Sorry Craig, the only thing at this point that tickles my interest is a Big Necked 77 or 78. My 77's just kills and i've owned a few guitars and so far not much else compairs.
bubs_42 Posted April 3, 2012 Author Posted April 3, 2012 Big Neck, 77/78, Shimmed Block, Long Headstock, any color but Sunburst/Cherryburst. I'd be willing to part with 7 0089 if I came across a Sunburst that has a bigger neck for the correct price. Seller is to pay Feynman $150. after our transaction is ended. Thanks for the bump!
Feynman Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 For the record, it's a mere $50 to me - the rest goes to the HFC, so helping Bubs is like helping yourself.
bubs_42 Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 BUMP, i'm always going to be looking for a Sunburst. By far my favorite guitar. B&C, Dots, BREAKS, as long as the Serial # is there we can talk.Again I would prefer Long Headstock, Shimmed Bridge. Since I have 2 in Cherry Sunburst I would prefer another color.
Hamer Dave Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 It appears some of these from 77 aren't shimmed. Those not shimmed must have had appropriate neck angle? if the case, wouldn't it be more resonant without? I presume the shim was to make up for neck angle not being optimal? Long as the old style bridge is present.
bubs_42 Posted April 20, 2012 Author Posted April 20, 2012 Unless, i'm mistaken, ALL of them were shimmed until some time in the later half of 78. The Sustainblock or compairable bridge did not exist at that time. So to put any angle on the neck would have taken a shim to get the hieght.Note: I have not found Resonence to be an issue with either style block. The Sustainblock adds "Mass" and that changes the tone.
Hamer Dave Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Ironically, the only two 77's I've seen. Both were without a shim. Both were NOT sustain block bridges. I'm guessing the neck angle was ok on these two, and didn't need the elevation.I also am confused why they didn't simply get the neck angle right to avoid the shim on all? I could see this if things were chronologically reversed. Where they first had it nailed with the elevated sustain block bridge, and all of a sudden went to the lower profile 'earlier' bridge, as they would have been accustom to the higher bridge build.
serial Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Because the guitars were built in TN and bridges put on in Ill.Good luck finding a 77 or 78 in any color other than sunburst. There's only one 77 that I know of-#0041 that is natural. A few black 78s and some very rare (some one offs) in other colors.
Hamer Dave Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I've a nice 79 in black, 3 pups. But I love that one!
RichRS6 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 79, Black, 3 Pickups !Pics Please, or better still add them to the Sunburst Appreciation Thread.
