killerteddybear Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 To all,I found this at Denny's Online Music+ (Spokane, Wa?):Solid-body; 1994 "Special" model - quilt-maple top - mahogany sides, back & neck - comes with the original hardshell case - has had a professional repair on a neck break, but the the guitar is very stable & solid.Their asking price is $275, plus $40 to ship.My addition to the description: zebra pickups; strings are anchored through the body. It is right purty. Also, I've sent an email to get the country of origin & serial number & I'll edit this post if/when I get an answer.I'm not in the market so if any clubbers are looking for a player guitar then this may be an answer. If it's a USA model then it's a good deal! Here's the website link: Denny's Online Music+There are pictures: Hamer '94 Special Pics
marcnorth Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Cool, you beat me to it. looks like a good score for the money.
serial Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 It's worth more than the asking price in parts alone. Good score and thanks for posting!Looks to be a 1980-1982 Special to me.
Aceldama Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 The refinish looks bad, but it's a nice beater...
SteveE9C6 Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 I want a good player. This looks like it will fit the bill. I've been watching ebay and here for a good all around humbucker player. I was thinking a Studio or FM. In fact there is a nice Studio on "feebay" right now but it's a tad pricey. The listing states it is a Studio Custom, but it's a garden variety Studio. Still... it's nice but a tiny bit overpriced. Now... if I can just make a deal on the gold top P90, I'm set.(for this month)...
Aceldama Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 I sent an email to see if I can snag this puppy. It will be my first 'bucker Hamer...
killerteddybear Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 Steve, let us know if it's a USA, I'm curious. Enjoy!

kizanski Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Kizanski,You noodlehead, that's a US model. Is Korea in the US now?
SteveE9C6 Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Is Korea in the US now? Yes... it's a suburb of Houston. BTW... love the flame on that guitar. Did you install the sustain block?
DavidE Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Is Korea in the US now? Yes... it's a suburb of Houston. BTW... love the flame on that guitar. Did you install the sustain block? Only when someone spends stupid money to hot rod an import. ;-)
eightyfour Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Is Korea in the US now? Yes... it's a suburb of Houston. HA! See!

Only when someone spends stupid money to hot rod an import. ;-) GMW made it - don't ask me why. To this day I still can't figure out why that guitar exists. It even has a "Hamer USA" decal on the headstock (so I guess I can kinda figure it out).
killerteddybear Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 So the mystery still remains... USA or import? I've heard nothing from 'Denny'. Steve you'll have to tell us. Inquiring minds want to know!
Jimbilly Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Nice score! Kull lives in Spokane now, -as a sidenote. My Aunt and Uncle live there too, but I don't think they know each other. That sure looks like a usa from the crappy pics. Here's another mystery "Hamer?", I emailed the guy about it, and the logo and serial number are long gone, so how could it be authenticated as even a Hamer?, or a usa?http://seattle.craigslist.org/msg/96818700.html
SteveE9C6 Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 When I find out for sure I'll post. However, I believe it to be a "circa 82" special. Several things point to that. Checkerboard logoSchaller TunersSustain BlockIf it is a Korean guitar, someone went to a lot of trouble to make it appear to be an early USA Special. The overall vibe of the guitar is that of a USA 82 Special. You can infer from the pics that the maple cap is very thin. I'm not convinced it is a refin. I'll have to actually hold it and look. The pups may or may not be original. It was common to see one Zebra and the other solid but generally not both Zebra. The neck repair is a non issue. For me, the most important thing will be how it plays and sounds since my need is for a great player/gig guitar.
