FrankieIII Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Major bummer. Does the crack open up at all when you gradually and gently apply tension? If not, I don't think you can repair it. The crack needs to be able to open a bit under tension to be able to force glue down into it.

The crack needs to be able to open a bit under tension to be able to force glue down into it.I don't know Frankie as the new owner has it in England, his repairman was trained in Kalamazoo and is authorized Gibson repairman so we will see soon, I am worried about if the split enters the truss rod cavity. We are trying to figure out who claims for the insurance the sender or the recievee.Justs sucks to have not one ding or scratch in 21 years, I custom ordered it from the factory and there were only 75 ever built on this color. I still have my Amber Burst from the first 75..still sucksFigures the nicest buyer who really loves this guitar gets it like this,,unreal.yngwie308
ArnieZ Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I don't think it matters if the crack enters the cavity,it can still be repaired. I believe the person who insured it has to file the claim. You will need the buyers help re package inspection and photos. Sorry about the guitar!ArnieZ
Tah-lee Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 The seller who bought the insurance files the claim, but the shipping company often wants to see the original packaging - so, please make sure the buyer does not throw out the box it was shipped in.That happened to me: the buyer threw out the box and the claim was denied on that fact alone. I was the seller and all I got out of the deal was my broken guitar shipped back to me. I had to refund the buyer's money in full.
murkat Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Bummer.strings loose when shipped?Strings at pitch in pictures? Not a clean break, multiple fractures, boxed got tossed and dropped a few times (plenty of youtube on that per fedEx / UPS).The fractures are clean, need to see what happened under the TRC and sides.Clear clean photos needed.can be fixed.
BCR Greg Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Easy fix. I tried to reply to the pm but it didn't work. Call me.
yngwie308 Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 Thanks Greg, spoke with you by phone so very helpful!! You are the best, but you already know this..lol!Thank you brother for all your great advice againCheersDave
yngwie308 Posted October 18, 2012 Author Posted October 18, 2012 Latest pics, still awaiting Fed Ex recovery dept in Memphis to contact me... BCR Greg still looks like she'll repair ok?? yngwie308
Hamerica Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 BCR Greg repaired a snapped Steve Stevens neck for me. I have seen many of his neck repairs on various vintage guitars. Highly recommend him and it won't break again in the same spot once he is finished with it. Hamerica
tbonesullivan Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Looks like it was dropped. Grover tuners are HEAVY, and there isn't much wood around the nut/truss rod channel on any Gibson-style angled headstock. If it falls over the weight of those tuners combined with the string tension can do horrible things. And now you get to deal with claims, which is always SO MUCH FUN. Without any damage to the box the reason for the break is simple: excessive handling force. Now, what you should do is see if the guy on the other end can get an estimate for repair, along with a possible reimbursement for the devaluing of the guitar. They probably won't go for the second part, but it never hurts.I wonder how my SR5 is doing now over in SLO for repairs at the factory. I should fire off an email to make sure it got there in one piece.

I should fire off an email to make sure it got there in one piece. It was dropped most likely, the Grovers are heavy, the strings were detuned, I didn't think I would have to take them off though.BCR Greg is my first USA choice but the guitar is in England.I am waiting for the battle with Fed Ex, I am ready for a fight for sure...Dave
murkat Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 " I am waiting for the battle with Fed Ex, I am ready for a fight for sure...Dave"You best be.A long dragged out fight at that.Bastids.good luck Dave.
Armitage Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Yeah, they're just hoping you'll go "screw them" and give up... then they don't have to pay.
RobB Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Yeah, they're just hoping you'll go "screw them" and give up... then they don't have to pay.Don't give up! Keep grinding them until they relent.I've never had an issue shipping/receiving guitars, so I count myself amongst the lucky. Go after them, lawyer-up if need be and take 'em to school.I can't imagine paying boocoo bucks for a guitar and have it arrive broken. I'd FREAK...
