SwissOli Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Hello to allI'm proud to be the owner of a Vector '81This vector was the first Vector in Switzerland and one of the first in Europe.Because of some crime's at this guitar during the late '80, early '90, I want to rebuilt this masterpiece. Can someone tell me which bridge i must buy, to be near at the original? Also I need the tunersThank you for your helpBest regardsOliver
polara Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Pics help But almost certain you'll want a sustainblock bridge. They do pop up now and then on Ebay, and there might still be one for sale here. Search the forums for "sustainblock." Tuners. In 1981 I THINK they'd be full-sized (not mini) Schallers. Not Hamer branded, but with the big "S" on the back. Serial, Andrew, anyone? I have an '81 Special, and it has those.
G Man Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Just to point out, it could also be a sustainblock tremolo bridge and my '81 Special came with stock Grover Rotomatics, so again, pics will help clarify.
Andrew Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 99.9% S-branded Schallers.100% Sustain-block bridge. Too early for the trem.
SwissOli Posted January 3, 2013 Author Posted January 3, 2013 Hello again and thank you I have exactly this guitar on the right side But in the 80's i do a shift tremolo in it. This was a string through body bridge Do you know any manufacturer? Tuners are Schallers, I remember Thanks
belgian Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Trans red is the color, I guess. Have the same one from '81 SN 1 38XX. Do you have the original pickups ?
SwissOli Posted January 3, 2013 Author Posted January 3, 2013 W.O.W.That looks very nice!!!Yes I have the original pickupsBut I dont have the rest :-(So I need now a replacement for the bridgeCan be new, but I dont know which and dont know from which manufacturer
bubs_42 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Only way you are going to find a bridge is to post in the FS Section and hope someone wants to let one go. I wish I could help but i'm all out at the moment.
veatch Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 How do the bridges that were used on the Tally compare? If they are the same (or close enough) and since Hamer is no longer building, you *might* be able to get one from them, assuming they have any left.If they are different (i believe they are), Bubs is correct, you'll need to find a used one. Keep a patient eye on feeBay and here in this forum - they do pop up from time to time.Good luck!
bubs_42 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I believe they are slotted under the saddles so the saddles don't move.
zorrow Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 And yet another 1981 Vector in trans red... She's my type!
cmatthes Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 There are also some extremely high quality reproduction Sustainblocks that were made several years ago by two members here. They were so good that Hamer agreed to allow them on custom orders, prior to going back into Sustainblock production when the Talladega came out. They were either the ones made by Stonge here (the "2FIG" bridge, based on an '81 Sustainblock) or the ones made by Tim/Hamerhead here (I believe he also had some gold plated as well). I've owned both, and they are pretty much dead-on versions of the originals.
The Shark Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Got this one from the "Scary" family. It's an '81 (S/N 43XX) with no checkerboard on the logo. I have the knobs.......
