Older Hamer USA Cases

Question

Dear HFC Experts:

I have a couple ol' Hamer cases that have seen better decades and I was wondering if they could be restored? Any suggestions or ideas? I am sure the restoration is probably more expensive than buying a new case however, if anyone has had one done please advise.

Most of the issues are broken locks and etc.

Thanks!

There are some smaller case companies that might want to look into vintage case restoration as a sideline to build their own name. Try contacting one of them. They ought to be able to give estimates.

Tolex, latches, and hinges are all available pretty cheap on the internet. There are plenty of websites showing how to put on the tolex or even how to install an entire new interior. Spray can adhesive, scissors, and a sharp knife are the only tools you need for the tolex and interior. To replace the latches or hinges you'll have to drill out the old rivets and either install new rivets (simple and cheap pop rivets would be ok) or use little bolts with lock nuts.

Check out youtube, there are always plenty of tutorials on how to do anything on there.

You know, I'm almost 45 and I've still never had an actual need that having a pop-rivet tool would solve.

Thanks to my inheriting my father-in-law's tools when he passed, I am fully pop-rivet ready.

You know, just in case.

Would you recomend me places to get hinges, handles and the like?

Try Mojotone, eBay, places like that. Always have the stuff you'd need there.
