Why 2 x 10 over 1 or 2 x 12 or in Ampeg bass speaker cab 8 x 10 over 4 x 15? Ribbed vs. unribbed. Wattage ratings, i.e. Vintage 30 I'm assuming is thirty watts. How can it be used in a 100 watt head? Jensen vs Webber vs Celestion vs Electro Voice. Electro Voice monster 300 watt 12 L vs Greenbacks. I know it's a lot.

I think it has to do with the free air resonance of a 15" speaker matching the resonant frequecy of the room , 10s have a higher resonant frequency so tend to boom less, resonate above the resonant room frequency ? the low frequency cut off has more to do with cone area & porting so 4-10" have a larger cone area than 1 -15 ? ( or something to that effect as I recall )(low feq cutoff also has to do with speaker excurssion )

i've tried a bunch of guitar speakers; 12's, 10's, 15's,

celestions (75's, V30's, greenbacks, others),

jensens, jensen styled webers, JBL styled webers, EV's,

& several emi's (wizard, swamp thing, legend, ramrod, patriot, others)...

everyone has their favorite, but my fave guitar spkr is the eminence man-o-war.

its a british voiced (celestion styled) speaker w/ (IMFO) characteristics of EV/JBL's

(more even thru the whole spectrum of lows mids & highs, no harsh spikes).

i tried them because of reading this about chris poland;

I’d have to pick four: the MosValve power amp, the Bogner Fish preamp, the Roland SRV2000 reverb, and my Eminence speakers. If that’s all I had, I could still do a show. The core of everything I do is in those four things. The way the preamp and power amp interact and the way they hit the speakers is key.

Don't overlook Warehouse Guitar Speakers (WGS) - they have some bitchin', made in US speakers at affordable prices. Murkat will back me up on this.

gtr speakers are a whole different animal than pa type speakers. guitar speakers like has been said color the sound ,pa type speakers do not or do less . bass speakers are closer to pa type speakers , w/ usually higher wattage ratings . JBL & Ev are used a lot for gtrs but are actually closer to pa type speakers higher wattage means less break up & they ( in theory anyway ) color the sound less ).but the reason 10s are used over 15s for bass has to do with resonance of speaker & room frequencies. I posted this before , if your just interested in hearing different speakers , google eminence tone center , or tone chamber ,there are places set up with multiple speakers you can a/b many eminece speakers most have jensen & weber as well . as far as ribs go on the cone , that is for cone stiffness , a way of making a lighter cone stiffer . weight of the cone also has to do with resonance .http://www.thetonechamber.com/the_chamber.html

in the end all the techno crap dont really matter , ya still gotta hear what you like, check out the eminence "man o war" its they're version of the 70s -80s rola g12?75 $89 its a great speaker

BTW, for some reason that will never be known, the Vintage 30 has a 60-watt power rating. It's actually a higher-powered speaker that the classic models, which tend to be in the 20 to 30 range. Weird.
