killerteddybear Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I just got back from Alan's Music in La Mesa, and the Hamer USAs that have hung there for the last 5+ years are on reduced pricing.Low enough that I had some fiscally unhealthy thoughts.I've seen these instruments in the past and I know they've chopped their pricing down.My memory sucks so forgive me on the prices.Monaco '59 burst (I don't know the version) - $2495 (sure of this one)Everything else was between $1095 and $1695, and includedArtist burst (humbucker) $1695?Ariist korina P90s $1495 (this one made me nervous and fidgety)Special Flametop ($?)Special Junior Korina $1495?Monaco Elite $1695?Monaco Subtone (no way I'm remembering the price - maybe this one was $1095)These are all Hamer USA, and they are all NOS (I asked). If I get any kind of tax refund this year I'll be going back to score something!
crunchee Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 This place? http://www.alansmusiccenter.com/ https://www.facebook.com/pages/Alans-Music-Center-Inc/255194324539518 No listing on the website that I can find for Hamers, but that doesn't mean that they're not there!
cynic Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Alan's is about ten minutes away from me if anyone has any interest.I've never even been in there....didn't even know they sold guitars. All their signage made me think they catered more to the high school band crowd.
mail4kev Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Any more info about the specials? Especially the korina special. Been gassing for one for the longest time.
killerteddybear Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 crunchee, I was in the shop, 3 feet away from them - there be Hamers there!cynic, I had no idea you were in the area!
Uncle Thor's Hamer Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Do you recall which finish on the Monaco Elite?
crunchee Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 crunchee, I was in the shop, 3 feet away from them - there be Hamers there!I know, I didn't mean for it to sound like I was questioning you, just mentioning that I couldn't find any listings on the website I found. I wasn't even sure if it was the same shop (SD is a big town, I used to live there, my apartment back patio faced the 805 and it used to get kinda 'entertaining' to watch rush hour(s) sometimes), I guess the website I found was for the right place?
killerteddybear Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 Monaco Elite was red. When I talked to the sales guy he said they were selling them off because Fender had discontinued the brand. The shop is definitely geared to education rather than gear.Really nice people, and they sell Steffi straps from Montreal!
Hbom Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 I woke up in the middle of a dream this morning. It was a cute little story. About a small music store in a sleepy Southern California town that found itself with a bunch of guitars that hadn't sold in years. After the guitar manufacture went tits up, the store owner decided to clear the shelves in an effort to recoup his investment and make room for more traditional band instruments. Trombones, trumpets & bells seem to sell much better for him. So the sale starts out pretty slow. Not a lot of traffic during January. The holidays are over, no one is buying anything. The 1st of February rolls around. Things are looking bleak. If sales don't pick up soon I may have to let somebody go, he thinks sadly on Saturday morning. Around ten a.m. a good looking older gentleman comes in. "Just lookin'." he told the clerk as he walked past the counter. He paused briefly as he walked through the record section. His interest seemed to spark when he got into the guitar corner. "Hey. What's the story on these Hamers?" was the 1st question. He asked several more as he went over each guitar. Why do you have so many? Are they all really new? Do you have the case for this one? After an hour of pawing and fingerprinting each and every one of those guitars the customer walked toward the door. "If I get any kind of tax refund this year I'll be coming back to score something!" he said as he walked out. "Just what I need." another nobody buying nothing day, and nine guitars that need to be polished." Thought the shop owner as he walked to the back of the store. At least he didn't drop any or scratch one. He was thinking,It's going to be a long, hot ,dry summer in California this year. Then,at about 3 o'clock, on that quite Saturday afternoon, the 1st day of February; THE PHONE RANG! And rang. And rang. It was a great dream. I hope the reality turns out well for some of you too.
BTMN Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Had I been home an hour or more earlier I would have called about that Special. Is it Monday yet? Actually I am in the same situation as the OP to the thread. Great story BTW.
LordsoftheJungle Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 So is that Korina git a 2 pup Special or a 1 pup junior?

Did I just get flamed? What I did tell the shopowner is that I'd post a notice on the HFC to let youse guys know what the store has and what the prices are (to the best of my lousy memory).\ So is that Korina git a 2 pup Special or a 1 pup junior? I wanna say 1 pup, but give them a call!
cynic Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Here's a shot of most of what's there. Didn't see a Special Korina Jr. Not pictured is a Superpro they're asking $2495 for. Left to right: Wraptail Artist: $1695 Studio: $1095 Monaco Elite Mahogany: $1695 (boat anchor) Korina P90 Artist: $1495 Monaco Subtone: $1495 Special FM: $1095 (the one that wanted to come home with me)
Hbom Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Did I just get flamed? Not by me man.I was thinking what a great story it was and that you were kind enough to share the sale with those of us who hang out here. This was a real drool story for me. Especially now that there are pictures posted.I just wish I was in a position to have been that 1st call Saturday afternoon.Sorry if I did anything to make you feel bad. Certainly not my intentions. D
Motorhead Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 My memory may be failing, isn't $1095.00 retail?
unfun75 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Are those all new pieces? An actual NOS Subtone? That's awesome.
killerteddybear Posted February 4, 2014 Author Posted February 4, 2014 Hbom, no worries.unfun75, as far as I've been told they are all new old stock.I drop in there a couple times a year, it's always been the same guitars hanging there.Cynic, the korina special jr. was hanging in the empty hanger... maybe it got snapped up.!
cynic Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Cynic, the korina special jr. was hanging in the empty hanger... maybe it got snapped up.!It's probably headed to Florida by now.
mail4kev Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 The Korina Jr is headed to Maryland. That was quick. Oh well...
ptm1diver Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I thought I missed it when I called them 10 minutes after they opened this morning. I spoke to Bill. Bill was very helpful. It should take about a week to arrive. I've wanted one of these and could not resist, borrowed the loot from my brother. Now I need to add 2 more pickups and a Bigsby, and perhaps an Alembic Stratoblaster.
killerteddybear Posted February 4, 2014 Author Posted February 4, 2014 Ok ladies & gentlemen,Back to cynic's photo (Bill the sales guy didn't know cynic took a picture) - right now the Special FM (on the far right) is "off the wall" (someone on the east coast is working out shipping details).I had a really good talk with Bill, he's pretty tickled that these guitars are moving. And then he told me he still has an Improv, sitting up on the shelf in its case.Number 007 with the certificate and case. Natural finish. This is NOS as well. They are asking $6k (plus shipping I expect). The Improv was never hung on the wall. It was in a display case until the puddle of drool in front of the case (much of it mine) became a safety hazard.I remember seeing that guitar in the case. It's drop dead gorgeous!
TBP Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 WOW... WOW. That wraptail artist... WOW.Yeah. It's very similar to my '95 wraptail Artist--well, other than mine was bought pretty well used--and it's amazing. so much easier to play than my other guitars it makes me feel guilty, and it has a complex, sparking tone with a unique depth. Seeing that one is slightly tempting me to get a second. But the others...
