bbocaner Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Hello all, I am the seller on this auction. It is indeed the instrument I purchased from kizanski. However, and with all due respect to him, I completely retired the guitar. He sold it to me with a non-f-spaced bridge pickup and I changed that out. I flipped the magnet in the neck pickup. The switch he had installed was not wired correctly (considering the orientation and polarity of the neck pickup) and it did not humbuck in all five positions, this is a new switch installed and not the one that was originally in it. The switch in there now is more flexible because you can rewire it for different set ups should you wish, the one I received it with was a fixed setup. It required a little routing to get the new switch to fit. The excellent RS pots and cap are also new. It is a wonderful playing guitar!

It was a great guitar when I got it but I like to think my expertise with the pickups and switching has improved it even more. So, yes, technically the neck pickup and bridge pickup model choice was his modification. I feel that is perhaps a little too much nuance for the ebay listing, my apologies if that created any confusion.

I would ask $1000 plus shipping. -same price i bought it for from kiz in 2006 (which makes it $1175 in 2014 dollars) -i put several hundred $$$ into it (although I realize one never gets what they paid for mods out of them!) -tiny bit of extra wear since then

Not the first time and probably not the last - lol.You had installed a "schaller megaswitch - p model"you had it wired up according to the instructions, and had done a nice neat job with it as I remember, but the instructions were very vague. It sounded good and worked, but didn't humbuck in the 2,3,4 positions. in order to get humbucking, you need three things:-coils that are close to the same dc resistance (check)-one coil in a north magnetic field, one in a south-one coil that is would clockwise, one that is wound counterclockwisestandard gibson-style humbucker pickups have the bar magnet installed so that the slug coil is north and the screw coil is south. with this type of prs-style 5-way switching, that would mean that the outer coils were both south and the inner coils were both north, so you would never get humbucking. That's why PRS sells different pickup sets intended for use with their 5-way rotary switch models than they do with the 3-way LP-style switch models, they have flipped the magnet and wound them opposite where they are intended for the 5-way.if you have a 4-wire pickup, you don't need to have them rewound, because you have the start and finish of each coil you can just flip which one you use as the start and finish to get the windings going the other way for each coil.with the schaller 5-way megaswitch as it was, it is unclear to me what they intended for you to do with this. They don't give you the schematic of what exactly the switch is doing. I tried just taking apart the pickup and flipping the magnet and as it made the sounds out of phase, I don't think that's what schaller intended. I suspect they intended for you to turn the whole pickup around, which wouldn't be anywhere near as pleasing to look at with the zebra bobbins, so I chose a different fix.I just replaced it with the oak-grigsby 5-way "super-switch" which is a 4-pole 5-way switch that can be used to make ANY wiring scheme work. Incidentally, the wiring diagrams on stewmac.com for prs-style switching with this are WRONG, I emailed dan erlewine back in 2006 to tell them that and someone wrote back to say I was right, but they never fixed it on the site. Trust me, it works the way it is now perfectly!
