RichF Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 A while back I picked up an 82 Special that came to me in this rectangular Hamer case. There's a tiny bit of side to side play in the body area. The neck support is very wide and leaves lots of play where the neck can move around. If this isn't a case for a Special what is it a case for? Inside dimensions of the case are 39 1/2" x 13 " The body area is 19" long The headstock area is 11 1/2" long The storage pocket is 7" long.
ARM OF HAMER Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Looks just like the case my friend has his USA Hamer Chaparral in and that case is original to that guitar.Never seen a Special in a case like that..............some of the big guns here could say yeah or nay about that for sure.
BTMN Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Looks a lot like my Daytona - T51 case. Some of the shredder Hamers had form fitting cases IIRC.
RichF Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 Thanks for the info guys. It didn't seem like the right case to me.
velorush Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 AFAIK, Specials came in the Les Paul shaped cases. The older ('80's) cases that I've seen had red interior covering. The '96 Special FM and the '03 Senior had black interior, but all were / are the Les Paul cases.
serial Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Yep-black lined cases are 1986 and beyond. Never seen a Special with one as original, although I know of at least one Vector that shipped w/a rectangular case.
belgian Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 One of my early Sunbursts came with a rectangular blue Hamer flight case. Heavy as hell.
tomteriffic Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 My checkerboard cases have purple/blue interiors. Hmm...
velorush Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 The checkerboard case I posted (to show the shape) was from the final BCR run - either the last or second-last that UnkaGreg sold (new).
Caddie Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I've published this several times but it bares repeating. Don't ship anything in a none Hamer case. Specials n Studios n Eclipses n the like have different neck angles and headstock angles than Gibson LPs and many others. You run a big risk of the neck getting rapped up against the inside top of the case n schnepp goes the neck. Trust me, i received a Studio in an Epiphone case, schnepp went the neck from the nut to fret #3. Mr. BCRGreg applied his signature neck repair techniques (the Bonjovi). Mine plays as good as new or better.Lesson: Get a gen-you-wine Hamer guitar case for your model. That checkerboard case will do the job for your Studio, and its tre cool, the chicks dig it.Cheers!caddie

Got 'em from the same place as you. No biggie, just a curiosity.
velorush Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 All of the versions were cool. I really liked the ones with the black sides (checkerboard top and bottom rather than checkerboard all over) and I would loved to have had a purple interior. ETA: I remember the day I got it in from BCR I took it to church that night and the case received applause from the youth group we were playing for!
