Did some online research and it's a Matrix model. The fretboard, frets and binding are all aluminum, apparently.

Oooh, that's trouble. Had a friend with one of those years ago. The frets wore down to where they desperately needed replacement. Surprise, they're integral to the neck. Can't replace the frets without replacing the neck.

Yeah, that ain't good. On the plus side it looks like this guitar hasn't been played much so there's probably plenty of life left in the frets.

An aside: could you TIG weld additional fret material on top of a worn fret and then dress down to the correct height?

Apropos of nothing, I ended up buying this guitar myself for $120. Haven't owned an acoustic since 1980, and i doubt I'll play this one much, but what the hell.

Best solution. The ones I saw online ranged from $150 to $259, and the $150 one had some wear and a 4" or so surface crack on the top. You'll get $120 worth of it even if you wear that neck down to oblivion.

Dibs!

Seriously. But only if you don't bond with it, and don't plan on making a killing in the resale. :)

Interesting.....Sort of the Kramer of Ovation models.

My original Ovation I got in High school, trading my electric sitar for it, turned out to be a one-off. A higher end model neck on a mid-line body. Only found that after after I had it for seven years and sold it to a neighbor in college to buy the first year Anniversary Model Ovation, which I still own.

Shame Fender killed off U.S. Ovations.

Maybe they could have reverse engineered them and made composite helicopter blades...Oh wait, someone alot smarter than anyone at Fender already did that. :)

Perhaps when ol' Charlie Kaman is done turning over in his grave, he might come back to beat everyone at FMIC WITH one of his Kaman Air blades. That might make a good Steven King movie.
