RobB Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 That, or a dialed down Leslie. That sounds more like it. A really CLEAN Leslie. Doesn't have that phasery whoosh that Unis have.
Steve Haynie Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Guessing Univibe just like RobB and cmatthes.
Navigator Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Sounds like a phaser (MXR, et al) set on fast speed to me. That was the standard effects pedal back in the day (before chorus), and I used to cop that sound with my MXR Phase 100.
gtone Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I've got a Phase100 and a Leslie and it sounds more like the latter to my ears. I've never heard a Univibe in person before so I can't discount that. Does kinda sound like something that's controlled by pedal because it has a bit of a wah-ish effect as the speed is ramped up at the start of the solo.
atomicwash Posted December 20, 2014 Author Posted December 20, 2014 Cool! Thanks for all the input. I've heard Will Sergeant from Echo and the Bunnymen use a very similar sound. I'm a student of the 80's, so I'm not too familiar with modulation before chorus.
cmatthes Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I've seen Rick do it live with a VOX wah, but it doesn't sound the same as the record.

LordOfTheThighs Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Ricks playing "High Priest Of Rhythmic Noise" on keyboard, to open "Oh Candy".
