LucSulla Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 I'm reluctantly putting this one up for sale. I love the way it looks, sounds, and the build quality. But try as I might, I absolutely can't get used to the neck. I hate having to sell the guitar*, but I also hate closet queens. It didn't come with COA when I bought it, though it is pretty clear it's for real. The only two things that aren't original is that at some point, Schaller tuners were put on, so you can see a tiny screw hole peeking from behind the tuner machine. I also put black SD Alnico II Pro Slash Sigs in it. I personally think they sound much better in this guitar than the JB/59 combo, but I will be happy to put the originals back in for you (originals in pic). Some pics: Asking price is $2,000 + PP and Shipping I know I am picking a great time of year to try and move a high end guitar, haha. *Edited to be clear about what I hated here.
cmatthes Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 That may have predated the C.O. Certificates.
RobB Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 I'm reluctantly putting this one up for sale. I love the way it looks, sounds, and the build quality. But try as I might, I absolutely can't get used to the neck. I hate it, but I also hate closet queens. Can you describe the neck? That might be a better selling chop than, “I hate it."
LucSulla Posted December 26, 2014 Author Posted December 26, 2014 Ha! Yeah, I can see how that was worded poorly. I don't hate the guitar at all. I actually think it is cool as hell. I also don't hate the neck; I just hate that I didn't quite bond with it. But you guys know how it is - you have one that isn't quite as comfortable as the rest so it slowly makes its way into the case and then never sees daylight. I'd really rather not do that, and I'm sure someone out there will play the crap out of it. The neck is a bit chunky. Not as thick as a 59 LP profile, but more meat than the early to mid 90s Hamers I owned with a pretty round shoulder - little fuller than a modern C but not quite a vintage U shape. It should be right in my wheel house - I loved the neck on those Hamers and love my LP with a 59 neck profile.
LucSulla Posted December 28, 2014 Author Posted December 28, 2014 I mostly want to get liquid... mostly. However, I am up for hearing out trade offers. I've discussed a couple of things and am kind of mulling it over. Feel free to shoot me anything you think is reasonable.
Sugartune Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Nice one! Can't forget that awesome figure in that korina. Pre-envy for whoever is lucky enough to snag this beauty.
LucSulla Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Nice one! Can't forget that awesome figure in that korina. Pre-envy for whoever is lucky enough to snag this beauty.I did spend a pretty fair amount of time after I got it just starring at the waves in the end.
gtone Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Please tell me this one doesn't weigh 10 lbs... Some of that korina wood can be really dense I know.
BTMN Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Amber Waves of Goodness. I seem to recall a doubting tone when I asked for those butt shots. So my two Specials and what? $350?
LucSulla Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 My first $350 offer... I feel like a cool kid now!
BTMN Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Never seen a $350 offer that included 2 Sweet Mahogany Specials though.
BTMN Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Then again keep the Specials, find other funding, or resign myself that I can't have all the ones I want.
BTMN Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 My Standard in the photoshop thread is 14 after this one.
kizanski Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Then again keep the Specials, find other funding, or resign myself that I can't have all the ones I want. It's not a substitute for love, Gene.
Sugartune Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Sell the Specials and pay cash! Would you be interested in a trade for those Specials, BTMN? I have a sweet homemade axe made from a jerrycan and a broomstick. Plays terribly. Sounds slightly worse. And I'll throw in a sweet Samick strat copy, plus $3.50.Offer also applies to the Standard and to anyone else who might be interested. No low ballers!
BTMN Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 That is Gorch that wants one of those Fuelcan guitars. LucSulla and I had a laugh about the possibilities. Don't know exact numbers but I have not seen many Special HBs without a flametop and took me a long time to find a Natural finish P90 Special. Cool pairing and worth keeping as a pair. Probably have to break that up to sell them. I figure they are worth $800 each and my adding the obligatory $350 was getting close to his asking price. Please someone buy this Standard so I will quit drooling over it and trying to trade cool stuff for it.
LucSulla Posted December 31, 2014 Author Posted December 31, 2014 Well, I'm leaving for Vegas to see my sis for NYE. I'll mull things over.
LucSulla Posted December 31, 2014 Author Posted December 31, 2014 Gene, your GASing is making me wonder if I an not making a huge mistake in seeking it, haha!
LucSulla Posted December 31, 2014 Author Posted December 31, 2014 It's definitely not the guitar. It's me. Maybe I am being hasty here...
LucSulla Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 Cool trade bait offers to think about, but still looking for $ at the moment.
LucSulla Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 Off the market for now... Not sure I really want to split with this one. Now for some hard other hard choices :-/
