I'm planning to sell my '06 Scion XB soon. Any tips for the newbie? Safety, ad copy, etc. I have a bitchen new camera, so detailed pics are no problem.

TIA,

Request a phone number in their response and delete any without one. It will decrease the number of flakes, jacktards, and scammers by 50%, but you'll still get plenty of them. Sold my daughter's car recently. Where are these people coming from?!?

Good luck.

Might help to meet at a bank, so you have a notary available if the deal goes thru... and save having weirdos over to your house.

You might check out cars.oodle.com, as an alternative to CL. I've sold a couple on Ebay as well.

For me, selling cars is right up there with getting a root canal.

Good luck!

I sold my MIL's Buick last month on CL.

I received lots of lowball offers that I simply rejected.

We began at 15.5k (blue book) and accepted 13.5k.

I met with one family in total. I screened many people out by speaking with them on the phone. The first instance of any issues resulted in me moving on, usually by saying, "I'm getting another call, I'll have to call you back" and then never did.

I've had luck with the old for sale sign in the window..park it somewhere with a decent amount of traffic going by.

I bought a car on CL once..lots of crap but I eventually found a low mileage excellent deal from a nice guy.

Dumb question, but what kind of "issues" came up on the calls?

Have my daughters old car up for sale now on CL......................only 2 people have expressed any interest in it at this point One guy asked if it was still for sale and never got back to me and the other was a grandfather looking to buy a vehicle for his grandson and and believe he will be buying it,we just have to get together as he is some distance away.............next week he is coming down to look, its a hr.&1/2 drive so I would think he is serious.Got to be careful of time wasters and players just looking to yank your chain though, just like on any other social media..............nutcases abound!

Anything that suggested they were tire kickers, looking for the deal of a life time, etc.

I sold my wife's car on craigslist. Had a few lowballers, but got two serious buyers pretty quickly and sold for cash. Did most of the filtering during phone conversations. I avoid email. It wastes a lot of time with people who just love to type.
