Where to sell Guitar Player mags?

As part of the perennial attic clean up, I plan on tackling the disposition of about 30+ years of GP magazines, going back to 1980 or earlier. I did the same thing a couple years ago with almost 300 Rolling Stones. I think I got a dollar each (or less?) from a guy who scopes out Craigs List ads, travels around in a van, scoops up large collections and then resells them to a guy who sells on Ebay. His buyer did not make a market in GPs. These things are heavy. Anybody know of a person who deals in these? Or are they like old elpees? I think I remember seeing things like this for sale at guitar shows years ago. I may just end up taking them to a local library book sale.

I bought a bunch of these a couple decades ago for about a buck an issue. That's one of the big reasons I don't keep as many full magazines any more, just the articles I have an interest in. Takes up a lot less space.

I offered up a bunch a few years ago here as a PIF. IIRC, I had only one taker . It was worth postage just to get them out of the way.

I still owe Singlehum a 1987 Ibanez catalog if I have it (promised in Feb, 2011!). That part of the attic was covered in what we referred to as, "the yard sale pile." I am pleased to report that is now gone, but I've yet to get back up there to see if I have that year's Ibanez catalog.

Singlehum, I have not forgotten! :D

Am I missing something? What's wrong with selling them here or eBay? I know that most issues aren't worth much but there are some that bring decent money depending on the cover artist or other interview content.

I still have a ton of guitar GP and Guitar magazines even though I gave a way a ton of them a couple of years ago. I kept the GP's from the 70's and Guitar for the Practicing Musician from the early 80's.

So. I'm kind of a pack rat.

When you add up the price of shipping and a bubble mailer... magazines aren't that cheap to ship unless someone really wants one in particular.

I think I was the recipient of that pile of GP mags. Many hours of good reading. Led me into a few vintage 80s guitar brands I hadn't heard of before.

Just got back down from the attic (my pullup bar is up there and that was part of today's WOD).

I finally dug through the remaining junk and found the incredibly strong box I carefully placed every guitar magazine that made reference to SRV and then a few other things into (placed there around 1998).

I found five Ibanez catalogs: 1991-1992, 1992-1993, 1993, 1994, 1995, but not the one Singlehum needed.

I also found a Jerry Jones catalog with a black and white "The Ultimate" sitar insert. The insert has a hand-written encouragement at the bottom to "order direct - call for prices!" Interesting I got the catalog at a Jerry Jones dealer.

I also found a catalog for Starfield America. Don't know if anyone remembers this but a friend's shop carried these in the early 90's - fantastic guitars for the money. I really had a hard time not buying an SSS configured model with a mahogany body. Truly the warmest Strat-ish type I've ever played. Beautifully done catalog with name guitarists and Seymour Duncan and Trev Wilkinson featured in the back with comments on their respective contributions. I don't think I've ever seen one on eBay.

Interesting trip down memory lane, at any rate.
