lonechicken Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Not a big name band, but for a short period of time, Savatage had no original members before Jon Oliva rejoined.
David B Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Slightly off-topic, but I just learned that a Night Ranger album was released in the mid-90s with just Gillis, Keagy and some other bass-playing singer. That's only 2 of 5 original members for a band that has otherwise stayed in its original form. I wonder what it sounds like? Night Ranger as a 3 piece is a weird concept. I saw that lineup live. They sounded great live, but I didn't like the bass player's voice.
David B Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Quiet Riot - only Dubrow remains. He was out for a while too.
seeker Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Motorhead is really Lemmy's musical incarnation. Motorhead without Lemmy would be like lemonade without lemons.Funny enough, he wrote the song Motorhead while in another band, Hawkwind. They are still around, albeit with one original member, Dave Brock. Considering they never had the same lineup from one studio album to the next (20+?), not sure if they would count.
Mike_C Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Well I guess that you'd have to include Kiss, Blondie, The Ramones and the New York Dolls to this list.
David B Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Well I guess that you'd have to include Kiss, Blondie, The Ramones and the New York Dolls to this list. Kiss has 2 original members. Can't include them yet.
Jason01 Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 As far as Savatage goes Jon Oliva didn't get his pic on the handful of rain album but he did write tunes, tour with the band playing keyboards, rhythm guitar, and singing packground vocals, play keyboards on the album and co-produce it so I'd still include him on that one. He also sang and played keyboards on dead winter dead even though his pic was not in the booklet again. I could venture a guess or two why he wasn't on the band listings but it would just be speculation. There was always an Oliva in that band whether they got credit for it or not.
darc Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Black Sabbath went a few years with only Tony Iommi accounted for. And many more with just Tony and Geezer.(This reminds me of the Separated at Birth thread from a couple of weeks ago. I mentioned a bunch of guitar-god types that tend to look interchangeable to me: Iommi, Santana, etc. but I left out the best fit, George Harrison. Some pictures of Harrison look exactly like photos of a young Iommi.)
cmatthes Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 A few years ago I had the pleasure (??) of seeing "Stephen Pearcy's RATT" (Just S.P. and 4 replacement dudes).I guess that counts?
Steve Haynie Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Chris, you went to see Stephen Pearcy? ...and I thought I was desperate for entertainment.
billywade Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 I admittedly haven't done my research but?G'n'R' and that band that play the lumberjack song come to mind.

I saw that lineup live. They sounded great live, but I didn't like the bass player's voice. Was it Marco Mendoza? We were supposed to open for those pussies on the Chicago stop on that tour but upon arrival we were told they absolutley wouldn't move any of their gear, and due to their ridiculous stage set up (drums right up front at stage left) there was no room for us and we were SOL.We got the last laugh though by sticking around to see Gillis come out in a tank top and gym shorts, which combined with his afro made him look like Richard Fucking Simmons. Between bursts of open laughter I scratched my head in disbelief that this was the same guy who played on Ozzy's "Speak of the Devil."
RobB Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 We were supposed to open for those pussies on the Chicago stop on that tour Easy there, partner! Night Wetter are fukkin' G-O-D-S on this MB, doncha know...I hear their fleet-fingered, 8-digits-on-the-neck guitarist has a Hamer model named after him. Is this true..?
Steve Haynie Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 I admittedly haven't done my research but?G'n'R' and that band that play the lumberjack song come to mind. You are speaking of Jackyl. Those are the local boys who did good! I remember talking to the Worley brothers back when we were in high school. They hung out after shows waiting for autographs like I did. WE exchanged phone numbers so we could try to sell gear. Occasionally they pop up in the local stores and malls.Three members of the original band (album-wise) are still together.
cmatthes Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Chris, you went to see Stephen Pearcy? ...and I thought I was desperate for entertainment. Oh, HELL NO!! He was on a bill with a bunch of other bands. I went to see what was left of KIX. As I recall, a balding Jani Lane was also fronting a buncha guys who had a tough time squeezing into their white leather pants...What can I say - I was at the DE beaches for a week, and that's the best Dewey's Bottle & Cork could offer up!
billywade Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Three members of the original band (album-wise) are still together. I stand corrected. I say them on one of those PPV bike rallys a year or two back and I thought that everyone except the singer looked a little younger. Of course if your watching bike rallys on PPV chances are you've been drinking.
Brooks Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 from what i read on metalsludge.com, there was 2 versions of ratt touring AT THE SAME TIME; pearcy's, and one w/ warren dimartini & the original drummer.i saw that 3 man lineup of night ranger way back around 93 or 94? they were great, richard simmons even handed me a aluminum pick!
