diablo175 Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Too many oddities, inconsistencies and listing inaccuracies/misrepresentations ('78 Chap?) but could be a nice score for someone. Guessing it's a refin. If it's a USA, the bound neck is a nice feature for the $ being asked. Is this an import or a one-off (the OFR-sized recess cavity is the red flag)? Can't read the head stock to see if there's a USA after the logo. http://used.samashmusic.com/item.php?id=69392
Jake8773 Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Most definitely not Chap, definitely not a 78, and likely USA made. There is no USA on the headstock so unless I am missing something this is a $700 import! Did Hamer ever build US models without the USA on the HS? p.s. I called SA to confirm.
DBraz Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Let me see... '88 Cali? Looks like a small logo for that time. I thought the smaller logo Cali's were '93 onwards? All looks a bit suspect...
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 <strikethrough>It's an import.</strikethrough>
diablo175 Posted June 6, 2016 Author Posted June 6, 2016 Sheeesh. And I have the nerve to call myself a Cali-guy. Can't even spot a friggin' import. To quote Jim Norton- I'm just awful.
Studio Custom Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 It has a USA embossed serial number. The flash looks to washing the area of the headstock away making the USA not visible.
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Okay, so I'm wrong. It also looks like a one-piece body, which is USA and not import. But that fretboard just looks like the Korean import to me.

Spadeace Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Looks legit to me, but then again i'm pretty new to the Hamers
atquinn Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 That looks pretty slick. Description sucks, but it looks like a 1988 Cali Elite to me. The finish looks original, but not the pickups. - Austin
holLoWskull Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Looks legit to me as well (agree on innacuracies in the description). I've seen a couple 88's with an OFR vs. Schaller/Hamer FR. Agree with Austin on the pickups...tough to say for sure, but perhaps the OBL is original (and someone replaced the bridge with an EMG?) but without seeing the pots is just an educated guess. Guessing there will be a full inbox over at Sam Ash and/or busy phone lines lol
Jake8773 Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 I spoke to Sam Ash and it does not have Made in the USA on it anywhere. The guy was holding the guitar and looking right at the headstock
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Many of the Elites had EMG pickups, I thought. Sure enough: Quote The Elite version has upgraded pickups (OBL, EMG or Seymour Duncan), ebony fingerboard, boomerang inlays and optional figured maple body. So it is possible that whole thing really is original, if the buyer wanted to mix OBL and EMG.

It's more easy to explain a rubbed off "usa" on a USA than embossed serial on an import.

The only thing wrong i see with it is the trem cover plate is not original. Fair share of bumps and bruises, but a steal for $700. I asked the sales guy to call me if the sale falls through. Not holding my breath...
Bennyboy-UK Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 They have a mis-described centaura for sale there as well for the same price. im not going to educate them though.
Dave Scepter Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 apparently sold on Reverb "at least that's what the guy told me, but I have a sneaking suspicion it was someone from here" but here's the picture of the reverse headstock Centura for the same price no case
Jake8773 Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Update: I checked my phone and I received a voicemail from SA. They said they had it on hold for me... Must be because I emailed them last evening? Calling back.... If it's there it's mine.
