000000113737389-00-220x220.jpgI just ordered a used 86 TLE, red, fixed bridge, HSS configuration, no binding and dots on the neck.

How versatile are these little beasts. Can they do more then metal/hard rock?

Would love to hear anyone's thoughts on these.

Hamer's I have: Studio Custom, Duotone Custom, 25th Anniversary Artist, P90 Special, Echotone with Gibson hardware and pickups.

Hamer's used to have, Californian Elite Custom, Newport .

Thanks!

That's great!  I was just looking at Guitar Center's online used Hamer inventory, and they have three 80's TLE's right now - all red.  I was tempted.  Come back and let us know what you think of yours when you get it.

Yep, it was one of those from Guitar Center's used section. So I'm getting it sight unseen.

I sold my TLE not that long ago because I didn't get along with the thinner neck.  The maple top was beautiful and the hog on the back was really nice.  I loved the access to the upper frets, balance and low weight.   There was a great deal of versatility in tones in the original pups.  I think you could pull off classic rock, 80s metal, country, blues and even jazz tones very well.  Nu metal - not so much.  IMHO it's the most underrated guitar in the Hamer inventory.

Thanks for the info. My 25th Anniversary Artist gets played the most of my Hamers. I really miss my Californian and it was surprisingly versatile as well. I'm hoping to get in some of the same territory with the TLE. I think people forget how many other tones you have access to my rolling the volume or tone knobs back a bit. My Hamer Special has really hot p90's but rolled back a bit, in a raw rockin machine.

I'm looking forward to this. I have a couple of other tele like guitars with humbuckers. Suhr Alt T Pro, Asat Classic with little 59 in the bridge and 72 Thinline with wide range lollars.

Did you get the one with body binding?  That was my favorite.

There is one on the Guitar Center Used section with binding but it had a big wear mark on the front that bothered me. The one I'm getting is red, I believe it's kind of transparent, at least that's what the picture looked like. I can't access the picture on the site at the moment.

Funny. Same here. Got one in 2013 from here, let it go a few month later for the reasons jaded named. Concerning pros and cons he is totally right.

Back when I had one it was mostly playing Rock /Metal but it seems like it also had a nice clean sound as well. I really liked the guitar looks and tone wise but didn't get along with the Kahler and the neck was a little on the thin side for my tastes. Would like to hear about the Suhr Alt T Pro though. I picked up one of the new (at the time) Modern T Pro's last year but have been looking at the Alt T guitars for a while now. Congrats

The Alt T Pro is a great guitar. Most nights it’s my number one. Lots of tones with the pickup selector. It’s just a quality guitar all the way around.

Here's a couple of pics of the guitar. I took the truss rod cover off, I'm still trying to adjust it a bit. The guitar itself is in really nice shape for a 30+ year guitar. I think this was a closet queen. I'm still taking it through it's paces and will restring it.

I have a set of Talladega pickups ordered, I might try the bridge Tally pickup in it and see if I have a shorter, scale poor man's Talladega.

That is one Hamer that I have never played before. Would love to try one out someday..

Never tried one.

I love the shape, the sustainblock bridge and the HSS configuration. How’s the neck? Is it too thin?

Hope you’ll bond with it. Looks really awesome. Congrats!

You know the neck width isn't so bad, I was expecting it to be thinner. The Californian I had and my P90 Special I believe had thinner necks.

I'm trying to resolve some string buzz, I don't know if this guitar was in a case with loose strings for a long time, but it needs a little relief. I have it adjusted better and I'm I'm going to put some 10's instead of 9's on it and see if that does the trick.

Just don't lose those knobs!  :)

Are those the stock knobs? They're kind of quirky.

Yes and Yes, LOL If you take them off just put them somewhere. Next to impossible to find and everyone ones a mint for them.
