Unless you subscribe to the theory that a 24 fret 4-digit is a lot more rare than a 22 fret one. If you're the guy looking for one (or the one, because I would wager there isn't another), you're going to have to pay.

This seller knows his stuff. I agree, the seller does know his stuff however, I believe the price reflects the overall "showing its age/patina/refretted" condition of the guitar and not the number of frets

It is humor, poking fun at the dumbasses that list their non-mint, definitely used with signs of age, 20-year-old guitar for sale and describe it as “...it’s really a 10 for its age“ If you spend enough time here, you’ll pick up on humor.
Moose Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 Yeah -- I thought I was playing into that joke. Inigo finds well played guitars advertised to be in mint condition inconceivable. "Mint for its age" people really bug me, too. Mint means - like a coin that has never circulated, never been handled, exactly as it was struck. For anything else like it has never been used. Exactly as produced. Exactly as brand new. Regardless of age.

Most guitars have the bobbin centered under the harmonic, which is where a 24th fret would be. Moving the pickup closer to the bridge and off of the harmonic changes its sound. Also it looks kinda funny. Years ago, I had two late-70's Guild solidbodies, a S-60 D and a S-300 D (D='double, or two, pickups I suppose), and they had factory DiMarzios...both had 24-fret necks. They were OK guitars, but I never bonded with them, the neck pickups didn't quite sing like they did on 22-fret guitars. I always suspected it had something to do with the neck pickup placement and the 24 frets, and I never had that problem with 22-fret neck guitars. I've avoided 24-fret necks ever since; regardless of how rare, collectible, or even inexpensive they were/are.
DarrenD Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 I personally think the 24 frets on a 4-digit makes it more unique. I’ve never seen another one. And a sustain block? To each their own I guess.

I wanted it but just couldn't rationalize "how long would I keep it vs would I ever get my money back out of it"... had that been Black, it would have already been my NHD posting by now... that being said, I almost pulled the trigger quite a few times... I guess I'm just not a figured wood type of person... although I'm sad, I know I still have beer money 😉
