rugby1970 Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Looking for a drum machine for solo stuff. Not cheaply made but not expensive. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
fractal Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 How much is not expensive? The Elektron Model:Samples is a great unit that is really easy to program. I think it is about $400 though.
scottcald Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 What about one of those drum accompaniment pedals like this: https://digitech.com/en-US/products/sdrum

alantig Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 Used Alesis SR-16 or HR-16? I think they were running in the $100 range the last I looked. If you can go to $150-ish, you can go to EZ Drummer2 on a computer. It comes with a lot of grooves, and it's just drag and drop to build up a song.
rugby1970 Posted September 22, 2019 Author Posted September 22, 2019 The Digitech looks interesting and the price is right. The Beat Buddy is too expensive for me. Long ago I had an Alesis SR-16 which might be a possibility. The search continues.
diablo175 Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 I've tried quite a few. I like and use the Boss DR 3 and the 880 most often.
Studio Custom Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 What do a drum machine and a sore dick have in common? You just can't beat'em!
rugby1970 Posted November 3, 2019 Author Posted November 3, 2019 The jury is still out. My son-in-law let me try his Boss RC-30; too much loop and not enough drum. I want to be able to have drums that accompany songs that I'll play in a live setting, with a memory slot for each song (in sequence), foot controlled, not complicated and not more than $300. I don't understand midi, will not bring a laptop to a gig and unlike some pedals/machines I don't want to have to toggle between verse, pre-chorus and chorus on the foot pedal. There has to be something out there, no? Or am I just pissing up a rope?

I struggle with this every stinkin' time I think I want to develop one of many songs into a finished piece. Drum machines serve a purpose but they suck for a real drummer feel & being truly programmable. Midi drums and programs are more versatile and programmable but they are tedious to create and aren't exactly portable for your live settings.
scottcald Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 How about Neil Peart? He's as close to a machine as they come and he's not really busy these days. 😀
rugby1970 Posted January 1, 2020 Author Posted January 1, 2020 Anyone have experience with a Boss RC-3? I'm kind of interested as it fits most of my criteria and has a USB port to upload and download files. How about THIS
gorch Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 The Boss DR-880 gets used at home frequently. Essentially it makes my three piece home band.
tomteriffic Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 The old Alesis HR 16 is pretty easy to program with a little forethought. The SR-16 is close in that regard.
rugby1970 Posted January 5, 2020 Author Posted January 5, 2020 I bought a used Roland DR-01S Rhythm Partner. It's just for the solo acoustic gigs and has a lot of what I need and more than I don't. Review pending arrival and tryout.
