Montelovesco Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 This is the guitar I talked in the „ask the experts“ section about: https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/hamer-centaura-usa-superstrat-black-u-white-granit/1971882923-74-5959 No affiliation as usual. The seller states that all Centauras had scalloped frets, which is, as I know now for sure, pretty much BS…
tbonesullivan Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 To me, those also look like Jumbo frets, so I would guess someone wanted minimum fretboard contact.

Look at this crazy semi-scalloping from the 16th fret up, and only on the first three strings:
Steve Haynie Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 A friend ordered a Centaura with a scalloped fretboard from the 12th fret up. There was a tiny shelf on the side of each fret. That half scallop could be factory.

Steve Haynie Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 Someone had to ask for that halfway scallop. It is not unique. If you look at a Yamaha Billy Sheehan Attitude bass you will see the scallops only go under two strings.
scottcald Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 Probably something to do with Vai? He has that type of thing to help grab the higher notes he says. Didn't realize it was a problem, but hey whatever works for him.
Marvelicious Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 I seem to remember Yngwie Malmsteen being a huge proponent of scalloped frets... One of two things I remember from an interview that I read one time. The other thing I remember is him being a huge egotistical ass who didn't have anything to say that I was interested in.
