PSA: SKB Carry-on sized kwipment case

I stumbled on this in my inbox this morning.  This just looks like one of those "answers awaiting the right question" things.  Delicate mics, cables, synth modules, drum machines, delicate equipment in general.  Carry on size with real wheels with actual bearings.  Apparently the original intended use was as a gun case and the existing foam was cut for that use.  But at the price, get creative.

Oh hell yeah. I sent office equipment into Iraq on an Air Force cargo mission in those containers. Arrived after two weeks in the military transit system unharmed! Really good shit.

I'm a big fan of this style of case. I have used all of them for technical gear in heavy industrial spaces, and let me be clear: as far as carelessly tossing gear in a van, roadies ain't got nothin' on a bunch of contractors wanting to get out of a paper mill at the end of a 16 hour shift. All the brands I've tried seem to be pretty good; Pelican, SKB, even the Harbor Freight version are decent. These are priced better than the comparable HF case, so I'd call it a deal.

Just received the case, certainly well worth the $50.

Pulled out the gun foam and will use it to carry sound gear for my live sound business.

Thanks for the PSA!

Thanks for posting, that’s a great deal. I have several Pelican 1510 carry on size cases and they are real workhorses. The SKBs tend to have a bit more flexibility to their plastics but they hold up well. I just ordered one, might get another at that price

These were made for some type of hand gun with hard foam insert.

I left the foam in the top but pulled it out of the bottom. For what I store in there the foam is superfluous.

There are 3 fold-away handles on it as well as the retractable handle and 2 wheels.

Showed up late yesterday.  Unfortunately it's about a half inch too small for what I had in mind.  That's OK, this thing is an answer waiting for a question and I've already got another in mind.

Mine arrived today. Some wild divider system inside. They were listed as refurb but this is in great shape

I got one that looks like Boogie's, another with a bunch of stiff-ish foam glued in. I can tear that out, I think a heat gun to melt the glue residue might be a bit much, don't want to melt the case. That goo-gone shit really works?

The 3rd one is MIA. Allegedly was on the same Fedex truck. Now it says it's 'at Fedex' and also still on the truck, with everything in red and a 'delivery exception'. I suspect that one is gone. Grr.

GooGone did not work on the hard foam adhesive in mine, I did use a heat gun and a scraper. Just keep the heat gun moving and don't over do it, it will come out.

Got mine after about 4 days, for the price it’s a great deal, B&H sells the divider type insert if you want it for about $90. Mine had the same blue / red insert as boogies.
