tweed Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 Has anyone changed out their Charlotte's on a DC ? Got a set of Shlabotniks and tempted to try those out.
Jakeboy Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 Haven’t played the Charlottes but YOU CANNOT GO WRONG WITH THE SHLABOTNIK GIRLS!
atomicwash Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 I have Charlotte's in FOUR guitars. 'Nuff said. Thank you @JGravelin!
bubs_42 Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 If you got them use them, but if you not going to use them i'd buy them off of you. I might want to go all @hamerhead on #0070.

JGravelin Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 I feel compelled to jump in here and put it forth directly: please, yes Please DO feel free to pop your own favorite pickups in and experiment! We all love to do it and however you find your ideal sound that's in your head, I promise you that Mike and I are all for it. The Shlabotnik/ULT set was in a sense described to me exactly with what I should build- a lower output, balanced PAF-inspired set, clean and sweet in the neck with some stadium rock-type of push in the mids for the bridge. Almost Telecaster-esque (like the best of vintage PAFs are sort of!) but with a little more muscle. The Charlotte set: to be next-level but PAF inspired, mids up more for whats considered a modern humbucker sound but does split-coils in a delicious way too. A real "All Around"-er of a set that'll blues, rock and/or metal forth with anything the player throws at at. Christ, this sounds like shitty ad-copy! I hate flowery marketing bs talk in the pickup industry, or any industry for that matter.. But really, that was what I was asked to do and after 25+ prototypes of each, as tested through 8 different amplifiers over months and months and months, sleep lost over it for real, etc.. I felt satisfied that I'd hit the mark and delivered. Thankfully Mike agreed! We both hope you also agree and find joy straight out of the case. It's the base-line for Standard Models. All that said, the truth is that music and tone and expression as it applies to the grand "what sounds good" .. is very personal and subtle stuff. Those pickups are a damn good starting point; the best we feel we Both can do together but we also expected people would swap pickups in the ultimate quest for The Best For You. Pop in an Antiquity or '59 neck if that's what you like. Invader bridge? Super D? The latest Satriani, Vai, Petrucci, or Malgansteen model? GO FOR IT!!! And report back, with soundclips too so we call all hear you play this amazing Shishkov guitar.
HSB0531 Posted March 8, 2022 Posted March 8, 2022 I have to say, swapping pickups can be a Very expensive hobby, considering the work & the time needed to put them in and that you can't A/B them. At least with EFX pedals you can compare quickly.
Jakeboy Posted March 8, 2022 Posted March 8, 2022 @JGravelin, your post above exemplifies why we love you and your pickups. You and the pickups both have character. You and Mike are such a great team.
atomicwash Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 I played goldfoil and velvis back to back the other day. I think @JGravelin's description of the two pickup models is right on the money.
