Disturber
Did tubes get to expensive for him?
hamerican gigolo
RF, like all great musicians, sometimes hear things differently or he just wanted to experiment with gear. Nothin' wrong with that...
Biz Prof
I'm quite certain that TGP has set up a crisis counseling thread in the wake of this tragic news.

Maybe the amp keeps breaking and he needs 'original' Radio Shack parts for it. Though it might be hard to troubleshoot if the circuit's covered in epoxy. The Shark
The guy I've played with for forty four years has a '64 blackface Pro Reverb amp. It sounds incredible. I'm not surprised Robben Ford fell in love with it.
dhuber
I thought he was a Roland Blues Cube guy. Or is that just marketing?
HamerCustomEr
Robben probably played the Blues Cube only on the very days of the photo and video shoots for Roland. In this video of his pedalboard demoed in his home in mid-2020, you can see two home amps, but no Blues Cube: https://www.guitarplayer.com/news/take-a-guided-tour-of-robben-fords-pedalboard At 8:46 of the video, he shows off his Dumble controller which he admit that he has not been using. Robben has made Tone Prints for the TC Hall of Fame Reverb, and you can see it here in this video. He speaks about it in loving terms as well. santellavision
Here's moi next to Robben's Dumble at a Sweetwater Recording session. I can attest, it was loud as Fuck. And he plays it that loud. |
