Advice on my Hamer Artist USA p90...bridge?

Question

I have a Hamer Artist with p90s USA. I love it a lot and it is my main guitar. I do have a bit of a problem though. The g string soynds a bit duller then the rest of the string (all positions, also non fretted). I tried replacing the saddles with Graphtech graphite ones. Did not help.

Any other tips?

Can anyone tell the exact specs of the original bridge?

Thanks for your help.

Hamer switched to TonePros (from Schaller) hardware in the mid-2000s.

Is it dull only with playing the string unfretted? That could a nut problem. If when fretted up and down the neck, have the frets checked and look at the height of the G string above the frets. If you replaced the saddles with pre-notched ones, the notch could be wonky.

i can’t see straight so I take my guitars to someone who can. I put a Faber bridge on my Les Paul, pre-notched saddles. The bridge posts are not perfectly aligned with the neck so RS Guitarworks had notch new saddles. Also goes to string gauge.

It is dull fretted and unfretted. Nut must be fine. I do not trust the saddle. I am looking at changing saddles yes.

If you push the string down behind the saddle (between the bridge and the tailpiece), does the dullness go away?

Pics might help. Could be a low nut slot, bad saddle, not enough angle between the bridge and tailpiece,  old string (you *have* tried new strings, yes?  : )

You can adjust the P90 screw under the string up. P90's like being close to the strings. Do it to both pickups listen as you adjust. It also may be to close and the magnet is slowing the string vibration. Either way adjusting individual magnets can reshape your P90 tone!

Have you tried changing strings? (just joking). But have you tried different string brands. Or string gauges. I moved from 10's to 0.95's a year ago. Tones the same, feel is a bit different.

One place that is often overlooked but an easy fix is the relative height of the TOM and stoptail. If the TOM is high and tail too low, and/or the saddle is forward, the string might be touching both the saddle and the back of the bridge on its way to the tailpiece. Raising the tailpiece just enough that it clears the back (or top-wrapping) makes all the difference.

My next suggestion was going to be fiddling with the pole pieces on the P90s. Another easy way to dramatically (or subtly) change the instrument's character, as described above.

This is/becomes an issue on TOM/stop combinations more than I think most guitar owners realize.
