cornjulio Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 So I found this on a German website and emailed the seller about it. Is this legit? The truss rod cover appears to have been fixed with 3 screws and I'm not sure if this is really a USA headstock shape. No affiliation but very tempted to check it out: https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/hamer-explorer-black-white-von-1986/2375958890-74-1790 Edited to add: Sellers says it's a 1986 guitar. I don't think it's an old hamer, more like an import with a custom paint job but I'm sure there are a few guys here with a better sense of judgment 😉
Jim85IROC Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 This looks like ome of those Chamer "tribute" (i.e. fake) guitars that have been popping up lately.
JustKid Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 Chinese. $400 tops! And for $400 I think it’s worth it. Asian kind of posts

cmatthes Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 There is NOTHING remotely Hamer about that. Pure garbage.
cornjulio Posted March 6, 2023 Author Posted March 6, 2023 I admit did get excited for a minute when I saw it first even though I thought it was too good to be true. Not sure how many checkerboard hamer standards were ever made and what are the chances for one to pop up in Germany? Seller did eventually e-mail back not entirely answering my questions, only saying that there's no serial number or case and one can come and collect it. Does he himself really think he's selling a USA made Hamer for 1200,- when you can easily find actual asking prices all over the web? As he' selling other gear I'm assuming he's into music and guitars. I'm flabbergasted🥴 ....and edited the thread to be more specific with its title.
geoff_hartwell Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 I love Hamers and that’s not a Hamer, haha. But I also love Chinese knockoffs. Tangent HFC history: years ago one of you fine fellows posted about a Chinese connection to CS LP fakes and I bought an Ace Frehley for about $500 all in. It was a gift, mostly funded by his father, for a very promising young student who would do things like dress up as Ace for Halloween but also learn all the guitar riffs for Cold Gin and Love Gun. Love love loved that guitar- he didn’t take it out of the house. Years later he was assaulted by a bully at school who broke his other main guitar. I posted about it here and other members pooled resources and donated him a Real USA Hamer! He is full grown now and is an amazing guitarist, singer, songwriter and person. His band The Blue Chips is amazing and they recently dropped a second album. So a long way around of saying, cheap Chinese knockoffs have in fact led good people to Hamers and a beautiful life full of music. And if that Rick Ride was 4/500 I’d hit it in a heartbeat 🤘😆 ETA: Does anybody make RN Checkerboards out of Hamer Imports?? I gather that is likely what this is, but does anybody do it stateside?

I remember that donation. That was cool HFC. Great to hear he made it into music, band and recording.
