geoff_hartwell Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Hey Fellas! I bought a Mosky silver horse from a member here and I love it. After a TS-style going into it (but not the reverse order) it’s particularly awesome. I think it was 35 shipped here and such a killer deal I looked around for a backup. Here they are on eBay for $25! https://www.ebay.com/itm/314380761095?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=gb14kqv6rbq&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=lBbF7gsASUi&var=612991069593&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Im getting two more 😎
Biz Prof Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 I have the gold one, but I'm intrigued by the gain structure switch on the silver.
Tortious Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 If you wanna get real hardcore on price, aliexpress. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805176361801.html $23.22 shipped to FL for the silver one, $21.29 shipped for the gold. It usually takes a couple weeks for things to show up. 🤘

Biz Prof Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 7 minutes ago, Cboss said: What does the voice switch do? It changes the "acoustic voice" based on Kiz' preferences. Just kidding, of course. Here's how one online reviewer described it: In one position, the Silver Horse will clip with the gain knob set at relatively low settings. Flick it to the other position and it gains a lot of headroom and won’t distort. This is an ideal setting if you want to bypass the pedal’s own crunch and more judiciously pummel the front of your amplifier, or if you’re using a more high-output pickup and don’t want the Silver Horse’s distortion to kick in.

JGale Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 About a minute in he begins comparing the two tone stacks (not really tone stacks in the classical sense, e.g. "soft" clipping, but diodes to ground, aka "hard" clipping. Silicon in the Silver. D9Es in the second. That would be an easy thing to switch. Edited to add: @Jeff R can you build me a Strat that sounds like that one?
JGale Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 In a bid to stay relevant, I offer this jewel; the two signal lines in the Klon schematic separated at birth with gain available on the clean side as a boost. https://buildyourownclone.myshopify.com/products/silver-pony-2 "The drive channel is a faithful klone of the original circuit. The clipping switch lets you choose between Germanium diode clipping for the smooth, compressed sound of the original, Silicon diode clipping for a crunchier, more open sound, and LED (light emitting diode) clipping for a gritty, completely uncompressed distortion. One of the things this circuit is famous for is its ultra-clean and super transparent boost capabilities. But to use it as such, you have to stop playing, bend over, and turn the gain knob all the way down. You only get one or the other. There’s no way to switch between both with just the press of a button…till now. We dissected the clean boost portion of the circuit and made it into a separate boost channel"
JGale Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 And if this is real .. here long since discontinued because of some controversy, is a full Klone circuit WITH the adjustable clipping and HPF on the input buffer!! https://www.geargasstore.com/products/byoc-silver-pony-overdrive-pedal-new-powder-coat-assembled
Cboss Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Fantastic info as always!! I bought the Gold version from the Ebay link which does not have a switch, does anyone know what that circuit is like? I'm guessing it's one side or the other of the switch on the silver, hopefully the better Headroom version Hasn't gotten here yet so I haven't been able to test it
